I liked that they included a lot of news footage. Overall I love the point-of-view story told completely from Louise's eyes. We experience everything from her point of view and really only being exposed to all that sort of stuff completely through news footage I thought really added to the story. She wouldn't be insulated from those realities just because she's out in the middle of nowhere.

I think it was necessary to add pressure on the scientists to learn to communicate ASAP. Otherwise, they could have taken their sweet time and there wouldn't be enough tension in the movie.
