LOVED this movie; let me list the reasons...

First of all, I am sorry for this "comment" being so long and I hope some will stick it out whether they agree or not. I did see the first version a few years back and I enjoyed that one as well but this one overtook it for me. I believe that this movie topic will shy people away from even giving it a chance and/or even discovering it in the first place and I do understand that but as difficult to watch as the first half or so of this movie is, the second half is all the more gratifying because of it. Not only because it shows the very much too rare occasion of true evil getting exactly what is coming to them but because the acting (as was in the first half) was so amazing, especially the lead actress. It was all such spot on, edge of the seat, believable intensity that even as a man, it put me in her place throughout the ordeal and I felt much of the revenge satisfaction this character would have experienced as well as some of the not-so-fun emotions. The only possible criticism I can give on this one is that it was never explained how she got from New York to BULGARIA in a wooden box, all while not even knowing she left the state. I get she was drugged but that leaves a lot to be explained. The other thing would be the club bathroom where she seeked one of her revenge plots. What was that; the bathroom from Saw?? Why would feces and puke be literally everywhere and everyone just ignore it like it's just another day in Bulgaria? That country cannot possibly be that gross. Also... when she first escaped, ran out into the streets and begged everyone for help... you're telling me that in Bulgaria, people driving, people walking, will just shrug and say in their native language that they do not understand her and just blow her off & continue on with their day... when she is hysterical and covered in blood & bruises? With what part of that visual do you need a native tongue explanation to call the police? So, for these obvious reasons, I couldn't give it a perfect rating but it was close. However, of all the movies I have read up on on IMDB, this is the first that prompted me to sign in to talk about it & I look forward to seeing the 3rd movie AND the original from the 70's which I just found out about before watching this one. 👍👍

Not sure why it didn't show it but I tried marking my post as "spoilers". Just so anyone reading it knows I intended to alert them beforehand.

You see her trip from NY to Bulgaria from inside the box. She's locked in and llegally shipped via some slave trade route. Plus I'm sure it was done this way so you could get some "shock factor" when she first escapes and discovers she's in a foreign country. All from her perspective.

Yeah, the bathroom was a little over-the-top.

Sometimes people don't want to get involved. But I bet if she had stuck with it a little longer someone would've helped. But then there would be no movie.

they were russian mafia so they prob had money to use a private plane to get her to Bulgaria.

actually yes there are clubs in Bulgaria that are that disgusting. they use way more drugs more frequently in europe clubs than here. so people get pretty over the top wasted and my friends who did a euro trip saw first hand how disgusting the bathrooms get in certain seedy clubs like that. some drugs actually do give you explosive uncontrollable diarrhea along with other crazy stuff happening to the body. and it doesnt always get cleaned up right away.

also the scene where she was screaming and people were ignoring her was totally realistic. and felt realistic to me. and someone did call the cops, as shown by the cops showing up. it just didnt show who or when but she asked quite a few people before they pulled up. so yes again, on a typical day while bulgarians are walking the street like any other day and some american comes running screaming in english they cant understand, they would prob be rude and ignore her rather than be all warm and friendly like possibly italy , greece, holland, switzerland, parts of france, etc. it's a weird country in certain areas and she probably either annoyed htem or freaked them out. but someone did call the cops.

youd be surprised how much europeans actually hate americans. its not just a myth. the stories my friends have from traveling all over the world are nuts. they got a LOT of hate from locals everywhere they went. one night my friend said he was having an anxiety attack in amsterdam from a bad trip and was running the streets after leaving the bar yelling for someone to show him where the hospital was and they did NOT help them. they eitheri gnored him, laughed at him or yelled at him telling him basically to get his shi* together and shutup.

I can understand the whole world hating our guts here in the United States! We're total arse-holes, think we should run everything, and have little qualms about occupying a country; for their own good of course! When I travel abroad, I try not to bring it up! With Trump as President, we'll be hated even more I can assure you! 
