She probably doesn't know they are alive. Either the mom has already passed on (not a ghost) or is alive and has no idea that they are ghost.

shareI first started watching the show, it was under the assumption that they died and became ghosts. what if they were actually born ghosts instead? it would explain why that plot element was never addressed. Heaven and Hell exist for humans who die, but Ghost World exists for people who are born ghosts and only age to a certain point (level of full maturity). maybe the mother lives in Ghost World and we hadn't met her yet (she didn't take them in in the finale because she wasn't allowed to). or at some point if Ghost World is too overcrowded and she lived there, certain ghosts will cross over into Heaven or Hell and she was one of the ones that decided to leave. all we have now are our theories though.
