The bad guy dying was a terrible move

(English is not my first language)

"oh he is the bad guy, let just kill him"
No... he should not die at the end, Amy should.
Despite Amy had cancer she should "die in peace because she had Jesus in her heart", maybe they should put some familiar conflict (maybe her mother or father) that it got fixed by the end, near to her death, maybe that conflict opened her eyes so she start to see life in a different way, and than she find peace in her heart.
And at the end of the movie, they should give us some hint that professor Radisson maybe start to belive in God again, changing the sentence "God is dead" to "Is God dead?" letting his students showing their point of view

I thought they did...?

reply

It would certainly have defeated the point for many if it did not have the desired effect.

I'm well aware that railing does no good kurt2000

reply

He was about to die, it didn't mean anything, he was scared, people when they are scared they say anything to "save themselves"

reply

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that his "deathbed conversion" isn't some hint that maybe he started to believe in God again at the end of the movie...

reply

He should be alive after the accident and than one year later with another class, he changed the "God is dead" to "Is God dead?"

reply

If he had survived the accident, he would no doubt have quickly shaken it off as just being scared and so it didn't mean anything.

reply

Who guarantees us that he began to believe in God when he was about to die? He is dead now, no one knows that he believed in God with all his heart or not.
On the other hand, if he had come out alive, it would be much easier to know that NOW he is believing again

reply

Deathbed or not, there is no guarantee that anyone is telling the truth when they say they believe anything at all. Only they know for sure, and the only evidence you have is what they tell you.

reply

The man is very stubborn and steadfast with his ideals, if he changes the phrase of his class at the end of the movie, it would already be enough evidence that he has changed

reply

There’s a serious issue with deathbed conversions in any case

They suggest that belief in god is motivated by fear of death NOT by desire for truth

reply

The fact that ‘the bad guy’ was an atheist was pretty annoying. My dad watched this movie and it further cemented his beliefs that all atheists are like this badly portrayed college professor. It just causes even more Christian hostility toward non-believers.
