If they make another This is England which year would they set it in

Even though they said this was the last in the series, they did leave a door open for maybe one last series of This is England.

I would like them to make This is England '97 to finish the series off completely, set around the time Labour enter Govermant and I would like to find out what happens to the gang and if Combo survives. Last nights episode was a big disappointment and really I think one last series would help.

I'd imagine it would be 1996 to tie in with the football tournaments as with 86 88 and 90.
There is no ambiguity with Combo. He is very dead.

Why would it be 86 are you American or summit there's a major tournament every 2 years do 92 would be fine

reply

England limped out of Euro '92 with 2 nil-nil draws and a loss and failed to qualify for USA '94; might be best to skip those ;)

How about a prequel set in the late 70s with a 13 year old Lol, Milky and Woody meeting a charismatic man named Combo and being taken under his wing like Shaun in the original film. Maybe 8 year old Gadge and Kelly could cameo.

Of course all the roles would have to be recast...

OOM POM PAH OOM POM PAH thats how it goes...

A prequel is a great idea and would be amazing. But I think I'd prefer 1980, when Milky, Lol and Woody are all around 16 and finishing off school.

There's so much in that year that could arguably be depicted with Combo - his attempt to beat up Mick, his romance with Lol, his troubled family life, his 'adventure' with Woody that leads to his 3-year jail sentence, and so on.

Either 92 or my preference 96 with euro 96 and britpop and tony Blair's campaign being good points.

2011-12

The Roses Reunion, Olympics, etc, but with a start on the 2011 riots etc.

Would be good, but obviously would have to wait twenty years for the cast to look the part.

I would like '93 because of the sheer possibilities of that soundtrack (What is Love, Mr. Vain, Rhythm of the Night, No Limit etc) TIE90 did the rave scene in a very bohemian way, by '93 it was proper strobe lights and neon etc. I'd like to see Woody and Milky actually open up that scooter shop that was mentioned as part of the main plot of TIE90, find out what really happened to Combo, maybe examine that physically abusive relationship Harv has with his father, see Shaun and Smell dance around the idea of getting back together etc.

is the 90 over?is it 4 episodes?

reply

^Exactly how I felt. Episode 4 was rushed and not quite as well rounded as I hoped.

Maybe 1994/1995 when Britpop was at its peak.

You're a creature of the night, Michael

I think they should just do another one every two years following the same cast as they age in time with their characters. '92 in 2018, '94 in 2020, '96 in 2022, '98 in 2024, 2000 in 2026...

It would have to be '96 when there was a significant cultural shift with Britop, New Labour etc. Not to mention a hugely significant (from an England perspective) football tournament in Euro 96. There's a lot of difference between '96 and '90, but virtually no difference between '90 and '92 or '94.
