Kinda feel bad for JJ Abrams in a sense

He has to practically undo much of The Last Jedi's problems as well as heal the divided fanbase by giving them a grand finish to the Skywalker Saga, though he's destined to have a base of people who will be disappointed no matter what. That's tough.

I don't feel bad for him. He knew he wasn't good enough, but his wife talked him into doing TFA thereby sabotaging Disney SW from the start.

reply

Don’t feel sorry for him at all, if he made better movies he wouldn’t be in this position. He chose to direct it so therefore he assumes the responsibility

reply

Not only that. If he had seriously prepared the story, he wouldn't be in this situation.

Abrams always does the same: he creates a 'mystery box' with many possibilities... without giving much though how those possibilities actually work in a story. That 'mystery box' looks great on paper, but the moment you develop them, you realize most of the stories don't work. A good story is like a clockwork mechanism. Chances are it won't work unless you've thought carefully about it, or unless you have a lucky day.

Abrams just throws possibilities without much thought... and later on, working with that and trying to find a good story there is a pain in the ass. By then, though, he usually has jumped to a new ship. This time, Disney told him to be back and fix his shit.

He's reaping what he sowed.

And that's his problem. The reason why the "no I am your father" twist worked so well is because we the audience didn't expect it so it caught us off balance. Abrams on the other hand has baited us with so many twists that it won't catch us by surprise as we are expecting it.

i feel so bad for him, poor guy got a huge paycheck and gets to direct a legendary epic movie

reply

We already had the "Grand Finish"...in 1982.

This garbage is fanfic.

Screw Jar Jar Abrams. He's been paid a fortune f*cking up Star Wars. There's no one involved in this debacle who I feel less sorry for. He's the chief architect of this disjointed clusterf*ck of a trilogy. Sure TLJ sucked but that was a forgone conclusion to those of us who weren't in denial about how much of an unsalvageable, atrocious clusterf*ck TFA was from the start.
