The key is that you see them as part of your group, your nation, your country. You see them as a political side of your group.

But wokeness has become a new religion. It's not a new set of values, I'd say a it's a new culture, a new set of nations. They don't see Trump (or you, or all those voters) as part of their group. It's like a country having 50% Muslims and 50% Buddhists. If you have a Buddhist president, Muslims won't see him as one of their own. From their point of view, you're an unbeliever, a foreigner to them. That hate is rooted in the oldest reason: xenophobia, the hate to foreigners. Hollywood has purged non-wokes, and the xenophobic rants against them have become the norm.

"Left" is not the right term, because this is not a political issue anymore.

reply

How does what you wrote not apply to you as well? You exhibit every trait in the far, far left radical activists, except from a far, far right point of view. You even wrote that the people with political views different from yours are so different as to be a new culture, and that their views don't count because they aren't really political views. You write with as much dismissal and hate as they do.

Honestly, it feels to me like there are about 5% of people on either side who are so far left/right of the rest of us, and so full of anger/rage/fear that they can only lash out at perceived slights that the other 90% of us don't care about. So what if a British actress doesn't care for Donald Trump? In what way does that affect your life, or mine, or anyone's? In what way does it affect the quality of a film? Stop and realize that the world is fine, you're fine, and no amount of worrying or pontificating about non-existent aggressions against you is doing anything other than keeping you in a perpetually angry state. You're just as "woke" as the "woke" folk you criticize, you're just "woke" in the opposite way.

Separate the art from the artist, enjoy life, stop worrying about what actors say in their day to day life.

Some are stamp collectors.

and?

And I suppose both statements are equally meaningful?

what do collectivists do, what do central planners do, what do stamp collectors do?

reply

Nope.

except from a far, far right point of view
Neither. I'm not even right-wing. I identify myself with what used to be European center-left during the 60s.

You even wrote that the people with political views different from yours are so different as to be a new culture
That's a lie. I didn't write that. I wrote that wokeness is a new system of values, a new cultural core. It's not a set different political views. It's a complete set of non-western new core values. It's not a matter of grade. Muslims, for example, don't have political views that are so different from ours, they just have a different set of core values.

they can only lash out at perceived slights that the other 90% of us don't care about.
Except people care. A few days ago, those people you say don't care gave Boris Johnson absolute majority in UK.

Stop and realize that the world is fine
Actually, western countries are in heavy decline. We have reached the point where a generation is gonna live worse than their parents. That didn't happen in western countries during the last centuries, it didn't happen even after the WW2. It's happening now.

no amount of worrying or pontificating about non-existent aggressions against you is doing anything other than keeping you in a perpetually angry state
I'm not angry, actually I use to be the one that uses to be insulted in this forum, not the one who insults. I am realistic, though, which is a different thing.

So, so sad. Thoughts and prayers.

She could at least do Disney a favor and keep her mouth shut until after the damn movie comes out. Obviously you are no Disney fan, but Disney did her a favor by giving her a huge opportunity. Apparently she is not happy with her fame either, and refuses to take pics with fans. Her right of course, but by doing things like that and now attacking Trump supporters she is alienating herself from many Star wars fans. I don't let any actor's political opinions decide what movies I see, but many others will, and Trump supporters are very devoted. This movie already has a lot going against it thanks to it's predecessor The Last Jedi. She should stop worrying about the sanity of Trump supporters, but instead the sanity of the clown politicians who are running the U.K into the ground

reply

I like people who aren't afraid to say what they think. At least then you can argue with them if you think they're wrong.

reply

Everyone shits on Trump. It's mainstream. What's so "fearless" or courageous about it?

reply

Actually it seems worse than being mainstream, it seems like a requirement to bash Trump and his supporters for success in celebrity circles.

Personally I wish politics would just stay the hell out of entertainment, and vice versa. I already disliked Ridely because of her incredibly bad performance in Force Awakens combined with her trying to suggest any criticism her or her character was sexism. Her going full Hollywood Trump hating bandwagon doesn't surprise me one bit.

I like Anthony Hopkins take on celebrities with political opinions he talked about recently, something along the lines of 'actors are pretty dumb'. lol

reply

I hate her Rey character but I love Daisy Ridley more every day. And she's right--I can't see how any sane, rational person could defend a dementia-ridden, dictatorial madman like Donald Trump. She has a right to say it. More would agree with her than disagree.

You DO realize Trump is supported by a very vocal minority only, right? 65% of our country hates his guts.

For any other president, I'd just shrug it off as: "Everyone is entitled to their opinion" but Trump is a completely different animal. He's dangerous, reckless, foolish, mentally unstable and keeps thinking of himself as America's ruler rather than servant.

I don't care where a person's party lines lie--if a person can't see the madness of Trump then I call to question their own mental competency. Donald Trump IS NOT NORMAL.

reply

It's not her job. She's an actress. As if there weren't enough other people commenting on Trump. This isn't China. Imagine a Chinese actor commenting on the brutal leadership in Beijing. Now THAT would be courageous. And suicidal. And as I already mentioned, we have enough Trump bashing. Actually doing the opposite would be taking some risk, like Domnhall Gleeson, for example, stating he likes what Trump does. He'd be finished.

reply

She has a right to say it whether it's her job or not. If it's career suicide then that's her business. I've seen plenty of actors speak out in favor of Trump. Trumpers don't say a word when they do. Why should actors who not like Trump be any different?

In my opinion, actors should keep their political opinions on the down-low and I don't even need to elaborate as to why. Still--if they want to put themselves out there and voice them that their fates become their own, so I ask--why do you care if she does or not? Let her ball land where it lands.

[deleted]

Isn't he about to be impeached? how can he be a dictatorial madman and be getting impeached at the same time? seems like a rather incapable dictator. Also you have nothing to worry about, if 65% of your country hates him (he will not win the electoral collage with only 35%) he will be out of office in January 2021.

reply

You are correct--he's very much an incapable dictator. That doesn't stop him from trying to lead like one, nonetheless. He governs via the Supreme Court and finds countless ways around the checks and balances against him. He also is in favor of state run tv, police states and critics of him being silences--all classic hallmarks of a dictator.

I guess I should have referred to him as "dictator-wannabe". That would be a more accurate description.

Well, some of us fear he won't be out if he loses the election unless it's an absolute landslide. There are already people talking about/fearing Trump will try to claim the election was "rigged" and skew favor over to his side. Some theorize that, if there isn't a landslide victory on the democrat side, that Donald will find a way to weasel his way into a second term.

This could happen. That's why myself and many others are worried. Donald Trump is a special kind of phenomenon. The only time I remember people in my country saying: "Just because the president loses the election doesn't mean he will leave".

The boundaries of my country's constitution are constantly being tested under Trump's "rule" and we're coming to find out something horrifying: our boundaries are flimsy. Paper-thin. It's scary how much he's gotten away with already. God only knows how the election will go. All bets are off.

reply

Didn't Obama actually have multiple journalist jailed? Didn't he use executive priveladge multiple times to block investigations into his administration? I know for a fact almost 100% of your country's media reported on Obama in a much more favorable manner than Bush before him, was there this type of 'he is a dictator' type talk about Obama? It seems like Trump just hates all the negativity that comes his way and is very vocal about it, but doesn't actually do anything about it. Can you name some of his policies or things his administration has done that push in favor of things like state run tv, police states and critics being silenced? Not just his words on these matters but actual policies.

Well with the questionable circumstances of the impeachment combined with calls of his 2016 election being illegitimate being a mainstream talking point for 3 years (since he took office) it laid nice ground work for him to make the claim of the 2020 election being rigged.

I doubt that it would happen anyway that he doesn't leave; more likely he leaves if he loses and then just bitches about it until he dies; that seems to be more similar to what I have seen as an outsider. Now the danger comes in the form of his supporters that listen to his words and take them super seriously, that actually could pose a threat.

reply

Nice perspective. What country are you from? I'm always interested in the perspective of people outside of the US.

reply

Germany originally; but I am not honestly 100% an outsider. My parents brought me to the U.S. for their work for a good part of my adolescence. I spent about from 8 years old to 16 in the Chicago area before moving back to Germany. that was from 1988 to 1997. I still travel to the U.S. quite often today.

reply

I don't mean to get into politics too much on a Star Wars thread, but do you like Angela Merkel and the EU?

reply

Mixed feelings on her and it; I like some of her goals and policies and I like the idea of the European Union. But that doesn't mean it is always the best in practice. I typically vote for the FDP.

reply

FDP sounds good. Germany pretty much runs the EU, right?

reply

I would not say that Germany runs the EU. Arguably Germany has one of the most influences on the EU and its decisions; but that can be undermined during times when other countries are at the head of the EU. The same country is not always at the head. Right now Germany is yes but that will change in a few years.

reply

So then who ever is the head of the EU at the time can really skew the benefits for its country. How long is a country a head?

Wow, you really belong in a mental institution.

You realize this is exactly what your woke friends have been saying for the last three years, uninterrupted.

Please, get help.

BTW - the left said the same thing about W Bush (that he wouldn’t leave). You must be a young child.

Are you just ignoring the fact that he was actually elected? And Hillary only won the popular vote by 2%?

If it was just some insignificant vocal minority he wouldn't have even had a remote chance of winning... which is what all the leftists and their polls conveyed, until he won of course... (which you're still denying apparently).

Judging by the crap candidates the dems have currently, this "vocal minority" could very well lead him to another win... which will leave people like you scratching their heads, and in deep denial again.

reply

You are forgetting the fact he screwed a lot of his supporters. Most of the idiots that voted for him were convinced Obamacare should be repealed because ACA based insurance is better.

You DO REALISE that she is not american right?

It's not her place at all to comment on the US political setup.

And do you even know what a dictator is? Righto lefty buzzword parrot lol.
