Update: The Last Jedi is factually better than Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Solo, Rogue One and The Force Awakens. And Rise of Skywalker.

Last Jedi 85% Metacritic.

Empire Strikes Back 82% Metacritic.

Return of the Jedi 58% Metacritic.

Force Awakens 81% Metacritic.

Solo 62% Metacritic.

Rogue One 65% Metacritic.

Rise of Skywalker: 54% Metacritic.

Rian Johnson, the King of Star Wars, laughing at the ‘fans’.

reply

Not a single fact makes up those numbers, they are all opinion based.

So yuor point and post means absolutely nothing.

reply

They are not just the opinion of one person, it’s the general consensus of all the professional reviewers in the world. Screw the entitled Star Wars geeks, Last Jedi is amazing.

reply

As a stand alone film it is more than poor.

The 'metric' on this very film is one of the reasons why people started turning away from 'professional reviewers' thoughts on media\entertainment. Clearly bought and paid for - or don't want to risk not getting future screening gigs by ripping on the studio that has a monopoly on almost every IP in the world.

reply

User score 4.4, hmmm very different from critic score.

Critics mean absolutely nothing. They are paid. That alone makes there point invalid as they will have a natural bias one way or the other depending who is paying the bills and there salary.

reply

JBran, it's called The Bandwagon Fallacy, mass appeal or group consensus does not make a fact.

The TLJ places emotion over logic, shine over substance, its events contradict the rules of its own universe, therefore it is poorly written as it forces the avid viewer/fan to lose their suspension of disbelief, which is one of the primary goals of a movie.

The perfect example is the Holdo Maneuver. It looked great and had emotional appeal, but scratch beneath the surface, and all sorts of questions start appearing.

TLJ deviated so much from cannon and the expanded universe in such a cartoonish way, it was parody at best. However, I think Episode IX will probably surpass it, taking it into the farcical.

reply

No it’s called screw the book canon nobody reads the books so enjoy the films.

reply

Everytime you reply now i'm just gonna reply with the following as it is all you deserve.

"You are a terrible troll"

reply

And, what you just stated is called an Emotional Appeal Fallacy.

reply

ohh i am beyond the point of caring, i'm just gonna disagree with everything he says now.

reply

Typical troll behaviour.

reply

Not really, you use opinions as facts, you are negative to people who criticise, i could also say that is typical troll behaviour.

You see how this works. You don't want a discussion, you just wanna shout down anyone who disagrees with you. You know by saying i hate star wars and i'm not a fan and i'm ati-star wars all because i don't like the last jedi.

reply

I love the Last Jedi and so do the critics. I think it all just snowballed, once there was a whiff of hate online then gang culture got onboard and everyone said they hated it too.

reply

It means that critically it scored the highest, even though personally I detest it, these are facts that the OP is presenting to us.

reply

[deleted]

They are only facts in the sense that they are the actual opinions of others - not that the TLJ story is a good story.

The TLJ script would not have received a good grade from a professor of script writing at USC Film School, that is another fact.

reply

Professor of script writing at any school is a failed screenwriter.

reply

That would most definitely not be the case at USC Film School.

reply

Cool what screenplays has he or she written?

reply

All the scores are based on opinions only.

No facts whatsoever.

Factualy, the opinion of the people who placed a score on metacritic placed it higher than the others. That is a fact.

The quality of the Last Jedi is opinion only, nothing more nothing less.

For example, the audience score from Rotten Tomatoes is 44%, so factualy people who placed a score on that site placed it the lowest, that is a fact.

My opinion is The Last Jedi is complete garbage. Factualy made less money that the Force Awakens.

PLease don't confuse the two words makes you look foolish.

reply

I’d rather form my own opinion, then see that the adult critics agreed. As opposed to the teeny-bopper hate mob on the internet. The Last Jedi is outstanding, one day you will realise it.

reply

One day I will realize that you're trolling...today is the day.

reply

Fine enjoy your trash movie, good for you, more power to you.

Doesn't mean anyone else agrees with you.

Ahh so all the fans of Star Wars are teeny boppers, hmmmm. OK.

So by that same logic there were no fans of the original trilogy as they wouldn't have been born then, if all the fans are teenagers.

Strange logic you have but you are doing the same as the critics by attacking the fans because they disagree with you. It is pathetic and just makes you look stupid.

reply

Didn’t attack anyone, i’m defending Star Wars.

reply

You CAN'T be serious(!!)

I didn't think of you as a TROLL, JBran! If you keep this up I'll have to report you for starting a trolling flame war.

reply

Foebane72 i am just stating facts report me if you want. I won’t be banned for publishing facts.

reply

JBran,

Disney Star Wars can't even defend itself, really.

Don't throw your life away on this, there are better hills to die on.

reply

I’m not a huge fan so i’m not bothered, but i just think The Last Jedi is great and the pro’s agree.

reply

Audience score? You mean review trolls. I’d rather agree with the pro’s.

reply

"You are a terrible troll"

reply

You are the troll going against popular belief.

reply

53 critics on a website is now popular belief.

So completely ignoring the 10's of thousands of other peoples opinions.

reply

People are only vocal when they are angry, millions were satisfied.

reply

Prove millions were satisfied.

reply

Look at the box office.

reply

Proves nothing. All that proves is people went to see it. By the way considerably less than the Force Awakens

Did you ask everyone who went what there opinion was, no of course you didn't so you can not possibly know that millions were satisfied.

reply

Because it had amazing reviews

reply

By 53 people on a planet of 8 billion.

reply

Because it had amazing reviews

reply

Because it had amazing reviews

reply

[deleted]

The box office that was $700MILLION off Force Awakens?

reply

Box office means they were disappointed with The Force Awakens, so didn’t go to see the universally praised Last Jedi. Their loss.

reply

Sorry, thats not how "word of mouth" works.

If there was disappointment to the degree you're suggesting there was with Force Awakens, it wouldn't have done over $2billion, because WOM would have neutered it.

The Last Jedi was wrecked by WOM. It did great in its opening weekend, but as soon as WOM got out after that opening week, it dropped massively (I think its the biggest drop for such a high opening movie), so your Force Awakens example simply doesn't work.

To further show your example holds no water whatsoever, Force Awakens opened to $247million opening weekend, The Last Jedi was $220million opening weekend.

For there to only be a $27million difference between the two, doesn't suggest people were universally disappointed with Force Awakens, if they were, you would expect a much bigger dent in TLJ opening weekend.

To further show that you're not quite on the money:

Force Awakens Second weekend:
Friday $49million
Saturday $56million
Sunday $43million

The Last Jedi Second Weekend:
Friday $24million
Saturday $29million
Sunday $17million

If TLJ was really so great, it wouldn't have plummeted in its second weekend, if Force Awakens was so disappointing to people, and it affected TLJ's box office, we would have seen more than a $27million difference in those opening weekends.

reply

You have to be kidding? Everybody went to see The Force Awakens because it was the first sequel to the original trilogy. It was a monumental event so people saw it right away. Once they saw how tame it was they didn’t care much for The Last Jedi, only the diehards went to see it. And Avatar made a billion, i’m not using box office as proof, but critic reviews.

reply

Irrelevant. If the movie was crap, WOM would have killed it off in its second weekend and it would have continued its drop.

Therefore the conclusion is that WOM was good and that is why people went to see it.

reply

Word of mouth means nothing when it comes to Star Wars, everybody knows Star Wars. And proves how casual fans are just casual. Critics rated it amazing and it is the best for years.

reply

lol

reply

So, you try to prove something is factually better by using opinion-based reviews as your basis of proof?

reply

Yes. The scores speak for themselves.

reply

"You are a terrible troll"

reply

You are entitled to your opinion. But The Last Jedi is an amazing film. And the pro’s agree.

reply

Oh so its opinion now, i thought it was fact

"You are a terrible troll"

The Pro's how laughabe that statment is. You mean bias paid reviewers. You get that rght, they are paid.

For example Disney owns ABC and FOX, if both of those do a review do you think they will be unbias, of course they won't they will be favourable as there employer who made the film are paying for said review. Don't be so gullible.

reply

You lost the argument with "paid reviews". Get the tinfoil hat off.

If they were paid why was Solo so badly reviewed haha.

reply

So critics work for free do they? Why bother.

I didn't say paid reviews, i said paid reviewers, big difference. Learn the english language it will help.

reply

You’re losing now.

reply

What am i losing?

Your opinion differs from mine, oh no, how will i sleep knowing someone likes a movie i don't, my god you have got me.

You are the worst troll.

It is a discussion based solely on opinion, how can you win, your opinion does not hold greater value than mine.

reply

You’re just not a Star Wars fan and that’s fine.

reply

So you gonna generalise and say something unfounded based on no fact just your opinion.

Yeh i guess i better sell off my merch and cancel next years comic con dates and return my San Diego exclusives.

Some random troll says i'm not a fan. Ah weel everyone clos up guys, this is the only fan there is. Our voice and opinion doesn't count.

I was watching Star Wars prbably before you were born.

reply

Merch? Star Wars is films. That’s the problem you make all the rest up and hate the films.

reply

I don't hate the films, again another false generalization.

I hate the Last Jedi, i'm indifferent on the Force Awakens, i like Rogue one and Solo was just ok.

i love the original trilogy and the prequels were poor but still had there moments.

Anything else?

And yes being a fan includes mechandise, toys, t-shirts, i'm not gonna explain because you already know but just continue to troll like you have been doing.

reply

OK you hate it but people have to defend it against hate. It’s a great film in my and other’s opinion.

reply

I thought it was fact, now it is opinion.

Yes, you and 53 critics liked it, and based on the same website, 2960 other poeple liked it.

Now by your own standard which you have set, being Metacritic. 4186 didn't like it, so by that very same standard, more people disliked the movie which is opposite of the facts you speak of in your original post.

By the way criticism isn't hate. fans criticise, media calls it hate.

reply

I’d rather listen to the verified pro’s not the trolls who make multiple accounts to bomb reviews.

reply

Nope. Your trolling speaks for itself. Very obvious trollbait at that.

reply

I’m not sure how agreeing with the general consensus is trolling, but there you go.

reply

[deleted]

His website gave it full marks.

reply

[deleted]

You mean give great marks to a great film? He probably set it up himself.

reply

If you think TLJ is anything resembling anything of a good movie, you have worms in your brain.

reply

erm i don’t think that resembles a sentence.

reply

You start a sentence with "erm" and then attack someone else's sentence structure.

Pot calling the kettle black me thinks.

reply

Hey i’m not replying to you anti-Star Wars fan.

reply

Another false generalization.

reply

I'm high AF, but even weed can't make TLJ watchable.

reply

Maybe try sober.

reply

Lol, do you know what a fact is?

reply

Look at the scores.

reply

So what? These scores are based on opinion, not fact. Besides, the entire film industry and marketing landscape has changed over the past 39 years. To compare the two is like comparing chocolate to fecal matter.

But you already knew that. It’s obvious that you’re just looking to stir things up.

reply

Anything is better than putrid dumpster fire that is The Force Awakens. As for the rest....Nah.

reply

I’m just showing what the experts said. And what i agree with.

reply
