CALL IT THE "DISNEY TRILOGY"

Because it is NOT the sequel trilogy of Star Wars, as envisioned by George Lucas. It is solely Disney's interpretation of what they think it should be. Calling it the above is a great placeholder so that the REAL Sequel Trilogy can be made years down the line and this current travesty of a trilogy by Disney, de-canonised and forgotten.

reply

No its not ,they took elements of George Lucas story treatment into this so your wrong

reply

You hate IT 2, I hate Disney Star Wars. Let's stick to that narrative.

reply

I dont hate IT 2 its just not good

reply

It's not AS good as IT Chapter 1, but I still love it. I think I just love both IT movies together, so they can both kick out the outdated 1990 miniseries.

reply

the tv show was better

reply

It was, back in the 90s, but it's dated so badly now.

reply

I still prefer it, because Tim Curry is the one and only Pennywise and its closer to the book

reply

Bill Skarsgard is better, Curry acts too human.

reply

thats your opinion. new pennywise is just cgishit, thats not acting

reply

The miniseries is severely constrained by TV budgets and standards of decency, and feels crippled for what is a horror novel, and should've been made into a movie from the start. The two Muschietti IT movies are those movies. Therefore, they're better.

You can't honestly tell me you like the second half of the miniseries with the boring adults who don't even LOOK like their child selves?

reply

i take the episodes as a movie, so overall i like it very much and i also liked the adult actors more than the remake ones. who cares if they look alike, most real people dont do, im more offended by the crapshit thats new pennywise and the butchered finale

reply

Butchered finale? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

That fvcking animatronic spider is BETTER!?! Get the fvck out of here!

Why do you hate me posting positively about the movie? You all do it every time I post on that board, it's like you're spreading hate. Why? And why me? You seem to think I'm spreading hate about Star Wars, I'm simply relaying the Fandom Menace's side of things, but you've all got Disney's dick up your butts accepting the crap that Kathleen Kennedy puts out.

reply

dude youre the one thats shitting and hating on the tv series and i didnt even say anything about disney, so fuck off retard. youre the one spreading hate and now act surprised when its coming back. reflect yourself dickhead.

at least the spider was true to the book and not some crapshit cgi.

reply

The spider was in the book, but in the book it was a far more menacing and intimidating spider (like a black widow) than that ridiculous monstrosity in the miniseries, and I've read from many sources that to most viewers of the miniseries who had not read the book, the sudden appearance of the spider in place of the clown was confusing. Muschietti, for the climax of Chapter 2, obviously wanted the audience to know that the IT spider was Pennywise, so what else could he do than to combine the two? Honour the book that way. CGI was the only way he could do that part, at least with the spider legs, as most movies do these days. Do you bash all CGI movies?

reply

"dude youre the one thats shitting and hating on the tv series and i didnt even say anything about disney, so fuck off retard."

The Disney thing was not specifically directed at you, HAL9000, but to others. I should've made that clear, but I was seeing red when I posted the above.

reply

You are wrong. The sequels are worthy successors to the OT. Prequels are a disgrace. Prequels should be decanonized, and sequels should be enshrined. The hitherto shown prequels are even better thant ROTJ. Yes, the prequels are even better than the weakest of the OT movies. So, no, your statement is annulled. Next!

reply

I think I should Ignore you as well as Quasimodo.

reply

Because you cant handle opinions very well ? Like when you spat your dummy out of your mouth when someone disses IT 2?

reply

Quasimodo is dissing His Dark Materials for no good reason, that's why I mention that. I just can't believe that anyone but SJWs would get excited over Disney Star Wars.

reply

There! You pulled the "SJW" crap. Why??? What's wrong with you?!

reply

Nothing's wrong with me, I'm perfectly sane.

reply

Do you realize that by labeling someone as "SJW" you expose your hatred towards women and minorities? Plus, I haven't even mentioned those topics, but you just threw that at me. Like, appreciating the sequels automatically makes me an "SJW," doesn't it? Why, because they cast women and minorities in important roles? Shame on you!

reply

I don't hate women nor ethnic groups (don't call them minorities, that implies there's less of them than us) and I like several of them in movies, but when they're deliberately inserted so as to meet "diversity quotas" and so forth over people who can actually ACT, then that's a bad thing. There was no problem years before, when such actors were picked naturally and organically to suit the story, but these days, Hollywood feels that it HAS to insert a certain number of ethnicities and genders into, say, fictional and historical stories that never had them in the first place, especially people picked for these aspects rather than their acting abilities. This is what people are complaining about.

reply

Oh so you are against "quotas?" First off, "quotas" don't apply to Boyega and Ridley and whomever, because they are great, charismatic actors, period. But since you have exposed your deeply harbored resentment for the non-whites or non-males, let's stick to the quota business for a second. Are you saying that those groups who have been and still are so underprivileged and denied basic civil rights are not entitled some help in accessing opportunities, that given their poor socioeconomic status, they wouldn't be able to enjoy if they were left on their own in the predominantly white/male society?! That is just so wrong!

reply

Actually, my all-time favourite male cartoon character, Tao from Mysterious Cities of Gold, is dark-skinned, so don't play the racist card with me, Mr. Touchy.

reply

I don't have to play any card. You exposed yourself!

reply

Do you realize that by labeling someone as "SJW" you expose your hatred towards women and minorities?

That is just plain moronic and not true, and it's laughable that you actually said that. And anyone who truly believes that is a completely weak minded, pathetic individual.

reply

The fact he said "minorities" tells you all you need to know.

reply

Lolololol that is hilarious.

This is the dumbest post on all of moviechat.

Well done.

reply

Why are the sequels worthy successors? Why are the prequels a disgrace and should be decanonized?

reply

Well, my logic is relational. Had there not been any horrendous prequels, I'd probably be less engaged with the sequels. However, when sequels appeared I rejoiced. So, maybe I tend to be more welcoming to anything related to the prequels. However, in all honesty, they are competent movies, that did well in all the important aspects: plot, characters, set designs, emotional content etc.
Sequels however....eh I don't know where to start really. I believe that at the time Lucas was either suffering from some kind of mental fatigue, or was trolling the world by deliberately ruining the movies. They are so bad, that had they not been attached to the legendary franchise and had they not been privately financed by Lucas, no studio would grant them approval. Why are they bad? Boring, tedious, totally anti-StarWars really (who cares about space parliaments etc?), bad acting, horrendous CGI, bad acting (oh did I already mention that?), stilted dialogue, characters that don't elicit any sort of empathy from the audience, bad acting...

reply

I'm going to humor you for a moment.

Explain to me how the First Order is so strong and why the Resistance is so weak after the fall of the Empire.

Explain to me how Rey is not a Mary Sue character.

Explain to me how Starkiller Base, a planetoid that cannot move is a good thing to build.

Explain to me how Luke Skywalker abandoned his training in order to aid his friends at Bespin, later decides not to help his own sister.

Explain to me how come the rebels never thought of hyperdriving a ship into a star destroyer before. Shouldn't they be doing that all the time now?

Explain to me Leia Poppins.

Explain to me how a force ghost can affect the real world.

That's enough for now.

reply

I'm going to humor you for moment.

Explain to me how the First Order is so strong and why the Resistance is so weak after the fall of the Empire.
Don' know, don't care.

Explain to me how Rey is not a Mary Sue character.
See, that's so sexist. You know why? How come no one ever asked why is James Bond such a Mary Sue character?

Explain to me how Starkiller Base, a planetoid that cannot move is a good thing to build.
Immaterial, it's the "Hidden Fortress," just like the Death Star.

Explain to me how Luke Skywalker abandoned his training in order to aid his friends at Bespin, later decides not to help his own sister.
He got disillusioned I guess.

Explain to me how come the rebels never thought of hyperdriving a ship into a star destroyer before. Shouldn't they be doing that all the time now?
Not a big deal, because the concept of space battle itself is an outlandish one to begin with. But even within the peculiar physics of Star Wars space battles, I guess that any time anybody could have done that, but you cannot base your battle tactics on kamikaze attacks. Even in our world, you have things like September 11 attacks, but that cannot be a part of regular combat.

Explain to me Leia Poppins.
I liked that scene. My jaw dropped, and knowing that Fisher had just died before the movie hit cinemas, I was really surprised. I really don't see any fault in it really. She used the force for the first time so explicitly. I thought the scene was magnificent really.

Explain to me how a force ghost can affect the real world.
He didn't affect it physically. And that part of the story is really smart, with that last "duel" etc. I loved that.

That's enough for now.

reply

Don't know, don't care? So you're okay with dismissing that the OT never happened as a starting point, yes?

We'll talk about James Bond in the James Bond thread. For now, you didn't answer the question. How is Rey not a Mary Sue?

The Death Star can move from system to system, unlike Starkiller base. Just FYI. Again, this doesn't answer the question I imposed on you.

He got disillusioned, you guess? That is quite an important character fact is it not? If Luke starts at point A and ends at point C in Disney Ep.8, isn't it important to say what happened to him in point B?

Why can't kamikazes be part of regular combat? How many ships were destroyed because of what she did? 8 to 1? Those odds are extremely favorable to do so on a regular basis.

Tell me how using the force protected her from the vacuum of space? Tell me how she entered the ship without an airlock?

Yoda called a lightning bolt. That's a force ghost affecting the real world. Did you watch the movie?

reply

Don't know, don't care? So you're okay with dismissing that the OT never happened as a starting point, yes?
That's a contrived conclusion really. The movies never say that OT never happened. You pulled that one straight out of your ass LOL.

We'll talk about James Bond in the James Bond thread. For now, you didn't answer the question. How is Rey not a Mary Sue?
Oh, but I believe that the burden is on you. You tell me why would you associate Rey to "a Mary Sue character" in the first place, and then ask yourself why would you not put JB to a same kind of scrutiny.

The Death Star can move from system to system, unlike Starkiller base. Just FYI. Again, this doesn't answer the question I imposed on you.
The Death Star is not explained at all in the movies. And the stuff they write about it in the books, to lend it some kind of hard sci-fi credibility, can be conjured up for the Starkiller base, too. I have no issue there. As I said, it's a Hidden Fortress, that's all that matters.

He got disillusioned, you guess? That is quite an important character fact is it not? If Luke starts at point A and ends at point C in Disney Ep.8, isn't it important to say what happened to him in point B?
Doesn't have to be really. It depends on the narrative structure. I don't see anything radical there really.

Why can't kamikazes be part of regular combat? How many ships were destroyed because of what she did? 8 to 1? Those odds are extremely favorable to do so on a regular basis.
Well, one passenger plane knocked out the hell out of Pentagon, the apex of the command structure of the US armed forces, but that stuff is just not part of regular engagement. It happens sometimes, but it's not conventional.

reply

If the Empire has fallen an a New Republic is established and the Resistance is part of the New Republic, it is only logical that the Resistance would have the full funding and backing of the New Republic. That leads to my question in why is the First Order so strong and the Resistance so weak? Now do you want to answer the question?

How many youtube videos are there that proves Rey is a Mary Sue? Would you like me to paste them? You're the one that said the characters were done well. The burden of proof is on you. So are you saying if another movie has a Mary Sue character it makes it okay to have a Mary Sue character? That doesn't really prove your point in the "characters were written well", does it?

The Death Star doesn't have to be explained. The point is, it's a base that can move from system to system, while Starkiller base can't. What's the point in building a base that can't move with only sucks to energy from a star? The range is limited and the usage is limited.

You don't see anything radical there? Wow! This explains why you like the Disney sequels.

An 8 to 1 kill/death ratio and it's not a plausible way of combat? Only an idiot would say this is not a good tactic to use. If this is what is shown in the SW universe, this is plausible in the SW universe in the future and past because it is now canon.

No idea, but I guess we'll find out in spin off movies, series, comic books, whatever. Not a big issue.

Well so many YT videos are sexist then. Is there a single one "proving" that JB is a Mary Sue? Plus, it is well established in the movie that Rey is a resourceful, resilient tech-savvy scavenger, plus she's Force strong. Is she too competent for you? Because, she's a woman? I don't see the problem there.

The Death Star doesn't have to be explained. The point is, it's a base that can move from system to system, while Starkiller base can't. What's the point in building a base that can't move with only sucks to energy from a star? The range is limited and the usage is limited.
Do the movies explain Death Star technology?

You don't see anything radical there? Wow! This explains why you like the Disney sequels.
Well maybe I'm just thoughtful, and not narrow-minded like you.

An 8 to 1 kill/death ratio and it's not a plausible way of combat? Only an idiot would say this is not a good tactic to use. If this is what is shown in the SW universe, this is plausible in the SW universe in the future and past because it is now canon.
No, it is not. Actually, the movie itself makes a comment. One of the characters kamikazes herself successfully, the other is stopped.

reply

Not a big issue? What's the point in hiring a writer with moviegoers like you?

Once again, you dodge and duck, but you fail to answer the question. How is Rey not a Mary Sue? If you say the "characters were well done", then the onus is on you to prove how she is not.

Again, Death Star tech is irrelevant. Answer the question. How is building starkiller base a good thing? If you say the plot was "well done", the onus is on you again.

The reason why I don't accept it is because I'm NOT narrow-minded. The reason why you accept it, is because you don't care and logic is irrelevant.

What are you talking about?

reply

Not a big issue? What's the point in hiring a writer with moviegoers like you?
Well not all of them moviegoers have Asperger's so they don't deal with the unimportant minutiae.

Once again, you dodge and duck, but you fail to answer the question. How is Rey not a Mary Sue? If you say the "characters were well done", then the onus is on you to prove how she is not.
Well, I honestly don't think she is, and even explained it, but your attention deficit prevented you from fathoming it. Go back to my previous post.

Again, Death Star tech is irrelevant. Answer the question. How is building starkiller base a good thing? If you say the plot was "well done", the onus is on you again.
Well, for one thing, it's very effective. Wiped out the entire system with one shot. You can't argue with that, can you?

The reason why I don't accept it is because I'm NOT narrow-minded. The reason why you accept it, is because you don't care and logic is irrelevant.
No, no, you're totally narrow-minded, I assure you.

What are you talking about?

reply

So all the people that remember what happened at end of Ep.6 have Aspergers? How is the fall of the Empire minutiae, pray tell?

You basically said, other franchises do it so it's okay. That doesn't prove she's not a Mary Sue. Just FYI. Also, that doesn't back your claim of "characters were done well", does it? Simple fact is, you can't prove it.

Yes, how convenient to the story! Still, it doesn't answer the question I asked, does it?

You've failed. On all counts you're a complete failure. You simply eat the chum you are fed and smile in glee that you got to eat chum at all. I commend you in getting joy and satisfaction in eating chum. Disney and all other studios want moviegoers to be like you. You are their poster child. You require no logic in movies. You require no continuity. You require no common sense. You require no brain function at all. Kudos.

reply

You are wrong again. I was mostly displeased with Rogue One, and hated Solo.

reply

Good for you. We're not talking about those movies. We're talking about Disney Ep. 7 & 8.

Simple fact is, Disney threw out chum and moviegoers like you gobbled it up and they netted themselves an easy profit. You are their target demographic. A person that doesn't expect to a movie to earn its praise, but should be praised because we got it at all. You are nothing more than a zombie/lemming.

Did you watch Hobbs and Shaw? I'm sure you loved that movie.

reply

Well you are a person that appreciates the prequels. I shouldn't be talking to you. I value your opinion as I would that of a village idiot.

reply

Disney Star Wars brings out an appreciate of the prequels as sad as that sounds. By all means, don't talk to me. You couldn't answer a single question imposed on you with any coherence. If that makes me an idiot, I guess by default that makes you a dunce.

Now put your dunce cap on. Remember, it's not to remind others that you're stupid, it's to remind YOU.

reply

Tell me how using the force protected her from the vacuum of space? Tell me how she entered the ship without an airlock?
The airlock part - whatever. They switched on the invisible shield. And well, not confounded by her survival in the vacuum of space because I see force being able to do all sorts of things.

Yoda called a lightning bolt. That's a force ghost affecting the real world. Did you watch the movie?
Or could it have been Luke, to whom the Yoda ghost appeared? We'll never know. Fun stuff.

reply

The airlock is lazy writing, which you give a pass. Now explain the force. What did she do specifically to with the force?

What are you talking about? Luke said to Yoda, "That was the sacred Jedi text!" It's only OBVIOUS it was Yoda. Seriously, did you watch the movie?

reply

The airlock is lazy writing, which you give a pass. Now explain the force. What did she do specifically to with the force?
Well remember when Vader stood at that docking bay as the rebel ship freed itself at the end of Rogue One? There was also an invisible shield protecting him from the vacuum of space I guess. Probably the same thing was at play here. And well, the force preserved her from the adverse effects of the exposure to the vacuum of space. Why not?

What are you talking about? Luke said to Yoda, "That was the sacred Jedi text!" It's only OBVIOUS it was Yoda. Seriously, did you watch the movie?
Yeah but the thing is too metaphysical to dissect it like that. The whole scene is simply a representation of Luke's inner torment. I just don't find any fault with the scene really. The point of the scene, and the running theme of the entire movie, was to let go of the past when it becomes too much of a burden. That's all.

reply

If you actually watched the movie, you'd see the door being depressurized. Why would it depressurize if there was a force field?

Once again, you fail to answer the question imposed on you. How does a force ghost affect the real world?

Seriously, did you watch the movie?

reply

I genuinely find the marketing of the film to be insulting. All this end of the saga crap, the final conclusion. Like it's some epic canceled story they saved and are finally wrapping up. And with a whole brand new set of characters no less. That we still don't even know. It's an utter joke. We reset the bad guys and cooked up some new heroes, but it's for reals this time, yo! So f'n dumb. Man, there's still days where I will literally just sit around and think about Anakin Skywalker. Just think about him all damn day. What he went through, why he turned out the way he did. What a hot turd they got now. Like when you pick up a cat turd off the floor too soon and it's still hot and you kinda have this shudder of revulsion about it. Have I stumbled into animal scat porn? What's happening here? That's the Disney trilogy.

reply

A lot of people will love this movie a few vocal people will hate it either way it will end up being Disney gold and making a ton of money because a shit ton of people will like it and see it over and over. This movie is going to be in the top 10 WW box office movies of the year.

No one will make the trilogy you want since Disney owns the IP now either get over it or just dont watch it.

reply

[deleted]

Its not a sports team Disney dosnt care about beating over Disney IPs they care about making money which they will do on this movie. Disney dosnt have to beat Disney to hit their goals. Disney has already made the top 6 movies of the year and they know they will have place 7 and 8 when all is said and done. They could care less if you or like or dont like the film they care about the millions they like it, buy the merch, pay for the streaming and pay for the parks. I would say Disney knows how to make money and they dont need advice from the poor masses.

[deleted]

just wait another 15yrs and theyll be considered good.

Jesus Christ....put a lid on it already. It's fannerds like you that pretty much have ruined scifi/fantasy Foebane. The constant whining and nitpicking has gotten stale and boring these past 20 years.

NOTHING and I mean NOTHING will ever give anyone the feeling that the original trilogy did if they were alive in 1977. NOTHING. It's impossible.

First everyone complained about the prequels and hated George calling him Luca$ or lucash...and wanted someone else to step in and said shit like ...." We need Lawrence Kasdan back....😂😂😂....well they got it and him and his son pretty much ruined Star Wars for you Fannerds who wanted him so back so badly...lol...and now they are looking at Lucas fondly again....🙄🙄🙄 It's flipping stupid. In fact many now like the prequels and are wetting their pants over Ewan MacGregor coming back as obi wan....and you know what??? They will nitpick and complain when that series is released because something won't jibe exactly with the OT or PT. LMAO....

Anyhow this is all on the Fannerds. They were told at the beginning it would not focus on the original actors. Which the really haven't. Once again they expected too much. 🙄🙄🙄

reply

I'm not a "fannerd", whatever the hell that means.

reply

Dammit Foebane....after all that shit I wrote, that's all you take from it??
I have been using Fannerd since IMDB. I merged fan, which came from Fanatical of course with nerd. So it means fanatical nerd. I probably should put a hyphen and type it Fan-nerd....but it looks better and more humiliating the other way....😂😂😂

reply

I knew what you meant by fannerd, Galactus.

"Jesus Christ....put a lid on it already. It's fannerds like you that pretty much have ruined scifi/fantasy Foebane. The constant whining and nitpicking has gotten stale and boring these past 20 years."

I never whined about most TV shows and movies of those genres back then, I was open to most of Star Trek (Enterprise), Star Wars (the Prequels) and of course, I loved Harry Potter and LOTR. In the last few years, I have objected to Star Trek Discovery (awful), The Hobbit Trilogy (awful) and I just didn't like TFA. I was happy with Sci-Fi and fantasy for the very beginning of the 21st century, it's only in the last five or so years I've grown to dislike a lot if it - maybe it's my age? I'm 47 now.

"NOTHING and I mean NOTHING will ever give anyone the feeling that the original trilogy did if they were alive in 1977. NOTHING. It's impossible."

You'd have a point if I hated the Prequels. I don't. I think they're OK, and I quite understand why many do hate them, as they saw the OT in cinemas as they came out and were obsessed with them and put them on such an unassailable pedestal. I wasn't one of them, I even saw the three of them out of sequence AND only one in cinemas.

As for your big paragraph with the smiley trios, I agree. It is very hard to please those Star Wars fans I described above, but I'm only a casual fan. I never bought the EU books, the comics, nor any of the toys, I just wasn't that crazy about it.

"Anyhow this is all on the Fannerds. They were told at the beginning it would not focus on the original actors. Which the really haven't. Once again they expected too much. 🙄🙄🙄"

Yes, focus on new and interesting characters and have the original actors be the older generation advising them, but they even messed this up.

reply

Calling it the above is a great placeholder so that the REAL Sequel Trilogy can be made years down the line and this current travesty of a trilogy by Disney, de-canonised and forgotten.
George Lucas made his own prequels, they weren't good enough.

JJ Abrams made a sequel reaching $2 billion at the box office and getting better reviews than the prequels, it wasn't good enough.

But here come Favreau and Filoni. They'll do what all others couldn't, right? Wrong. Right as the sequel is released, it will be praised by all. Then a year or two rolls by and all the hardcore fans go back to their "it's just not Star Wars, guys. Favreau doesn't get it. Filoni should stick to animation."

And every ten years or so the cycle will repeat. The REAL Sequel Trilogy is an impossibility.

reply

Call it what you want, let's just be thankful it exists. After Lucas' atrocious garbage prequels, it's a godsend to again have a Star Wars trilogy that's as good or better than the original three films.

reply

"After Lucas' atrocious garbage prequels"
With replies like this, I wonder why I bother.

reply

One wonders why any of you trolls troll. What's the appeal?

reply

I like the Prequels as well as the OT. How am I trolling? If anything, you're trolling for saying the Prequels have absolutely nothing redeeming about them whatsoever, which is complete bullcrap.

reply

Prequels are trash. I find it funny you want to trash the Disney films yet praise those garbage films.

reply

So we should be thankful for Disney to throw chum out into the water? The quality of the product doesn't matter as long as there is a product? Good or better than the OT? How so pray tell?

reply

Quality matters more than anything, and I'm thankful that Abrams redeemed a lost franchise. As far as I'm concerned, The Force Awakens is as good as any film in the Star Wars franchise. The original Star Wars will always be my favorite, because it came first, was perfectly understated, and was unlike anything that came before it, but beyond that, TFA can go blow for blow with any of the rest and come out on top. Don't be a slave to primacy or politics; acknowledge what you know deep down to be true. :)

reply

Quality matters? TFA can go blow for blow?

Tell me how Rey is not a Mary Sue?
