Bob Iger destroyed Star Wars, Not Kathleen Kennedy

Con man, who misled George and tossed his sequel trilogy ideas

reply

It was a joint effort, but I think KK is more responsible than Iger. Iger isn't the one who couldn't work with and insisted on replacing multiple writers and directors on almost every project. The only Disney/LF movie without personnel drama: The Last Jedi.

reply

It's actually Lucas' fault for selling the franchise. He could have let others, who he hired, take direction of the franchise and create new series and films, just like what Disney is doing, and take a backseat, but with full creative control if necessary. Instead he decided it was a better idea to sell it to Disney on a somewhat implied promise that they would use his ideas, but with no legal obligation to do so.

reply

If George wanted to, he could have stipulated in the sale that if Episodes 7,8 and 9 were ever made, they had to use the framework he laid out. He didn't. So screw him. I think they did George a little dirty, blind sided him a bit. But George was running LucasFilm for a long time. I bet he threw out his people's ideas without telling them all the damn time.

reply

It's actually the Prequel haters' fault for continuously moaning about them.

reply

It depends. If you believe Star Wars was destroyed because of bad film-making then thats on Rian Johnson. If you believe its being destroyed because of Star Wars fatigue then thats on both Iger and KK.

reply

Nah. Rian Johnson inherited a monumental turd.

reply

The Last Jedi was the turd. Force Awakens, Rogue One and even Solo were all superior stories. And RJ didn't inherit a darn thing. He pushed for it.

reply

Not going to get into a back in forth over it but an increasingly recognized opinion is that most of the problems with the ST began with TFA. A disjointed soft reboot of the OT with no soul or creative vision moving forward. Many of us saw the problems early on and where it would lead which is exactly where things are. Still, It's fine if you managed to enjoy yourself.

reply

I am in complete agreement with you threadkiller

reply

Lucas complained that there was nothing new in the sequels. Even the villain in SW9 is a rehash from the OT even though he's dead.

reply

Part of Lucas's plans apparently.

reply

I hated TFA from the start, lots of things just felt off about it.

reply

The only people who destroyed Star Wars were the toxic fan base, period, end of story.

The reason why the sequels were a retread of the original trilogy is that all the fans ever did was bitch and moan about how the prequels were nothing like them. So, Disney gave them what they wanted, a new set of movies that were exactly like originals.

reply

I respectfully disagree atomicgirl. Going to the extreme opposite direction is not what the fans wanted... and announcing 3 scheduled huge movies before they are written is just completely retarded.
The prequels were terrible too so fuck all that noise boi!!

reply

As in fuck all those fucks that fucked up something fucking beautiful

Don't silence Girl's opinion, Myy2free3!

I am sure there is a lot of blame to go around.
A lot if bad ideas and poor planning are in every aspect of Star Wars.

Tbh Rogue One is the only good Disney era Star Wars movie imo. Also a lot of the plot issues originated in TFA, which was basically a safe rehash of ANH. I don't understand why they never put Filoni in charge. Now we have to deal with Kevin Fiege's sitcom tone approach...ugh. it's looking like the real Star Wars stuff will be on Disney+ as some kinda compromise and olive branch to hardcore fans. While the films will be for general audiences.

reply

R1 was total fan service, not great film
