Laughable

Seeing that there are only 2 1/2 good Star Wars movies, it is funny that people take all of this so seriously. The Rise of Skywalker is going to be as unsatisfying as the last 5 movies. The Force Awakens had so much potential, but it was just really a bad movie.

Well in all fairness the totality of the Original Trilogy (despite the fact that Return of the Jedi had a good number of questionable choices) will likely always be considered one of the top 3 or 4 film trilogies of all time only rivaled by trilogies like Lord of the Rings and Godfather. So in that it will be a subject that people will be passionate about.

But yeah I mostly agree with you. I kind of wish Star Wars would be treated like the Godfather trilogy and have the 3 films just left alone.

reply

Yup, everything that came after Return of the Jedi has been really disappointing. Even the end of Return of the Jedi should have been an indication that Star Wars would sell out in the future and just become a terrible mess. Thank God we have the original trilogy to enjoy, because everything that came after is just not very good.

reply

Meh. To each his own. My favorite Star Wars film is ROTS. I really don't know why people expect. Rogue one was good as well. I'm guessing everyone who is displeased with the newer films just wanted more of Luke, Leia,Han, Chewbacca and the droids flying around in the Millennium Falcon.

reply

Not necessarily. I think that people would have liked the more recent movies more as long as they had the same spirit of the original films. The original films were fun, but everything that came after were much too serious.

reply

Not really. We had lots of light hearted moments in the prequels but than everyone complained about them. Yet ROTJ was probably the silliest and no one really complained back in 1983...

reply

Lots of people complained about it in 1983. I certainly did anyway.

reply

I did as well. But still it's rated higher than ROTS. Which I feel is a superior film.

reply

The biggest problem has been that the movies after the first three just became preachy and PC to the point of making the audience want to puke. Lucas pissed away 3 chances to make a decent movie because he wanted to push some silly the UN is broken angle... then Disney gets ahold of it and starts pushing this girl power crap. Neither of the last films has spent nearly enough time in trying to simply come up with a decent story. It is clear that they can't do movie with an agenda... so stop the damn agenda and just focus on a movie... And fire every person behind the movies that even looks like they might be wanting to push some agenda in the movie. People don't go to movies to be preached at they go for entertainment and to forget the crap in the real world not to have it thrown back in their face.

Rogue One was very good. ROTS was good overall -- awful in a few places, great in other places. It would have been excellent with another director.

reply

Agreed, Rogue One was very good.

reply

Yeah, Rogue One was okay; like ROTS it was flawed by enjoyable. probably I think Rogue One is about as good as ROTS and just slightly below ROTJ. I would not call it very good but decent and entertaining.

reply

The Prequels were very flawed overall, poor execution and really needed a great screen writer and director to pull off Lucas's ideas. Revenge of the Sith is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me though. I might not like much about the prequels but ROTS had some great action sequences and good pacing/cinematography combined with some really satisfying moments. And Ian Mcdiarmid's performance was just so much fun to watch. a flawed but entertaining experience.

"everyone who is displeased with the newer films just wanted more of Luke, Leia,Han, Chewbacca and the droids flying around in the Millennium Falcon."

Incorrect, most of us wanted a satisfying passing of the torch to a new generation that was as likable as the characters you mention. some of us actually would have preferred setting it hundreds of years after the events of Return and have all the originals pass on into historical figures or something.

The one thing we did not want was to have the old characters back in such away that it completely undermines their progression from the trilogy and makes them has-beens (Han), incompetent leaders (Leia), or complete failures (Luke) just so they can be out shined in every way by the new more modern PC sensitive characters.

reply

Wrong. there are 0 good Star Wars movies. Star Wars movies have the intellectual depth of a Nickelodean sitcom.

The lore and fiction can be deep to be sure, but the movies are not that.

You only view the original trilogy with reverence because you are wearing nostalgia goggles.
