How could there be any tension in a fight between these two in EP IX?! Rey has already kicked Kylo’s butt IN THE VERY FIRST MOVIE and handled him easily to a draw in the second one. Gee I wonder if Rey will survive the final showdown with Kylo and somehow defeat him?! Lmao if Disney had any balls they woulda flip flopped her and Kylos role in EP VIII. Make her the big bad and have Kylo take her down in EP IX.
shareSo many people want to place significant blame on TLJ for why the ST is a mess but there was so much wrong with TFA that damaged the potential of trilogy including having Rey overpower Kylo Ren with the force and then defeat him in lightsaber combat in the first freaking movie. It was a poor, short sighted decision to "empower" Rey at the expense of the main villain. I don't care how you want to head canon rationalize it , it still ruined any suspense or tension for any future conflict between them. There is zero reason that Rey shouldn't wipe the floor with Kylo Ren & having her appear to "struggle" against him at this point (before she inevitably defeats him again) would feel contrived.
