Unresolved Issue

So ummmm did they ever free those slave children from Canto Bight or was just freeing the space horses enough for Rose, Finn and the rest of the resistance to feel good about themselves???

reply

I don't think a single reference was ever made to the events on Canto. Probably a good thing, considering how totally god-awful cheesy it was.

reply

Oh the canto bight sequence was garbage I just find it very odd that at the end of the trilogy the slave children are still slaves and no one bothered to help them,

Oh well at least Rey found out who her parents were

reply

On the subject of slaves, it's explicitly stated in this movie that most of the crew in the Star Destroyers were simply rounded up and used as slave labour. At the end of the movie the rebels blow them all up. Not very Disney-like, IMHO.

reply

Yep, every stormtrooper they shot was an innocent, indoctrinated victim who was stolen from his family and the people who shot them are supposed to be the people we are rooting for, what the hell is wrong with Disney?

reply

Heh- I'm glad we could agree on something in time for Xmas!

reply

The prequels never referenced slavery again after Qui Gon won Anakin. But that's because neither trilogy was about 'freeing slaves" that appear for 10 minutes over the course of 3 movies.

reply

So then when FINN and Rose are disgusted at the Canto Bight residents and all of their atrocities we aren't supposed to take that outrage seriously?

Also Anakin didn't free the slaves on Tatooine because he turned down a dark path away from the noble, virtuous character we see in Episode I therefore that plot point works.

reply

Did you take Padme's disgust at hearing about slaves on Tatooine seriously? If you answer yes, you should be outraged she never went back to free the rest.

reply

That is also bad that Padme didn't do a whole lot, but here's the thing we are talking about FINN and Rose as that is the topic of the OP. If you want to make a thread about Padme go ahead and do it on the Phantom Menace forum, right now all you are doing is deflecting and using bad behavior to justify and excuse bad behavior is fallacious.

Also it was clearly established in the film that the Republic didn't have much authority on Tatooine, legally speaking there wasn't much she could do, much like how many Muslim countries oppress women but we the United States don't have the jurisdiction to stop them.

reply

Oooooh, it was "different" on Tatooine.

reply

Oooooh, your pathetic attempt at deflection got shot down, must suck being you right now.
