How did John Williams got Oscar noms for 7, 8 & 9...

...but go completely ignored for 1, 2, & 3? Even the most avid prequel haters can admit the musical score is the best thing, or even the only good thing, about those films. "Duel of the Fates", "Anakin's Betrayal", "Battle of the Heroes" and "Anakin vs. Obi Wan" are among the most iconic pieces of music from the entire franchise. "Duel of the Fates" and "Battle of the Heros" may be two of the most iconic pieces in modern film, period, based on how often they're used in parodies and spoofs.

Can anybody here name one single piece from any of the new movies? Can anyone here hum any melodies or movements from any musical score of any film in this new trilogy? I've seen TFA 5-6 times and can't remember a single moment of original score from the film, yet it only took me one viewing of ROTS in theaters to have that "bummmm bumbumbummmm buummm bum bummmm bumbummmmm, DODODODODODODO DO, DODODODODODO DODO" (I did my best) stuck in my head for life.

Yet, Williams went ignored for his prequel trilogy but received nominations for all three sequel films? How and why? Is it because he's retiring?

These awards shows are steeped in Hollyweird politics. Lucas was always somewhat of an outsider who had full ownership of Star Wars at that time while Di$ney epitomizes the Hollyweird corporate establishment.

Yes, the Oscars is two and a half hours of the movie industry congratulating itself.

Yup it is basically 2 hours of Hollywood performing self Fellatio. Haven't taken them serious in over 20 years. But the OP brings up a good point. The PT was extremely bad compared to the OT, not quite as bad as the ST but still. But one thing everyone agrees on is the music. John Williams pulled out his absolute best in the PT, you would never think he could top the imperial march but then you hear the droid invasion. Freaking musically gold. There is nothing even remotely close to that in the ST; not even close. And yet he gets nods for just phoning it in? what a joke.

Despise the sequels, but I liked Rey's Theme.
