Would people like this more if Rey were hot?

Daisy Ridley is pretty but not someone who I would describe as “hot” or “sexy.” Would audiences have liked Rey and thus the Sequel Trilogy more if she were played by a more attractive actress such as Jennifer Lawrence or Emma Roberts?

reply

those 2 are too old and non athletic to run around and do stunts like daisy did.......

she was good as rey, even though the movies were mediocre

reply

Jennifer Lawrence or Emma Roberts are too.....old? LOL!!!

reply

those 2 are too recognisable , daisy was an unknown, good for star wars............ she was good......... the movies? eh not so much

reply

Casting was the least of their problems...

reply

No, Rey (Daisy) was not responsible for the mediocre show called SW VIII, indeed she was the best of the last three movies..

reply

When I go to a movie I want to watch sexy women, horsegirl wasn't hot. If they cast an actress with sex appeal it would have been start but she would need some better writing

reply

PORN...ITS CALLED PORN,BRO...STAR WARS IS NOT FOR YOU.🙄

reply

Angelina Jolie as Rey? (just had Rey 20y older lol)

But instead of Oscar Issac for Poe they could've had Jolie or Charlize to give the ST some 'hot/fit' factor

Then i guess it'd have been similar/reverse of the OT.. hamil was good looking in a young small guy way but not 'hot/fit' like women found Ford to be.

reply

Terrible casting!
Daisy is very attractive, IMO. She was not at all the problem with these disasters.

reply

I really hope they wouldn't like it more just if the 'female protagonist' was hot. I don't think people would like Alien and Ripley more if Sigorney Weaver was hotter. At least I hope they wouldn't

Rey was a shit character from the beginning. It shouldn't (and I hope wouldn't) matter what she looked like.

PEOPLE LOVE RIPLEY...BUT THE SAD TRUTH IS...IF RIPLEY HAD BEEN "HOTTER"...SHE WOULD BE AN ICON ON ANOTHER LEVEL...RIPLEY-FEST FOR STARTERS.

I feel terrible for laughing at this. Really, really terrible.

reply

Why feel bad? It is not making fun of her appearance, it is making fun of her performance which involved a ridiculously constant teeth barred and mouth agape expression.

reply

Well, I guess because I laughed harder than I should have. Just thinking about it. Reminded me of one of those old cartoons, where the hot native princess is pursued by the male lead the whole time, then she removes her veil and she has these enormous buck teeth. I just can't get it out my head. LOL

reply

lol; I think I know the cartoon you are talking about. I I can't remember which one it is from the visual I do remember. That is quite funny.

reply

Yes and no. I think it has a lot more to do with sexuality. Rey's sexuality is very toned down. The movie isn't pushing how hot she in every scene; I'd say it doesn't do this at all. But if you look at something like Wonder Woman, it's a different story. A lot of people hated Wonder Woman before even seeing it, then saw it and were like "Yeah, it was alright" - not only because Gal Gadot is hot, but specifically because she is someone we are invited to sexualize.

The fact that you mentioned Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence, two actresses who are almost always romantic leads in stories, pretty much confirms this to me.
