I did think they did a good job of establishing the trio's comfort level with each other through their constant bickering - definitely a Star Wars tradition
I really enjoyed their camaraderie, especially when C3P0 was around. The humor was just right. I also like how they took time in the three films to flesh out each character, and they stayed consistent to their personalities and motivations. Rey's interactions with D0 (it that's the name of the one-wheel droid?), for example, are in such perfect synchronicity with everything we've learned about her.
