[SPOILER] Leia's dialogue...

Or the lack of is really palpable. I know they use unused scenes from previous movies. I don't think they add many extra dialogues besides the unused one, the only one that I can spot is probably when she hugs Rey and is facing away from the camera (unused scene from before Rey goes and looking for Luke probably)

So it's really weird seeing how all the characters are speaking, and Leia only responds with one sentence each time.

And the scene where Rey gave Leia Luke's lightsaber because she thinks she's not ready is probably to accommodate the scene where Leia is giving her the lightsaber back. Again probably a deleted scene from the end of episode 7.

When this sort of thing happens and a movie has to use existing footage or make some up for a character whose actor died before or during filming was completed, then it can be quite difficult to give their final performance some dignity and not come off as ham-fisted. The whole Carrie Fisher thing reminds me of Oliver Reed, who died during the filming of Gladiator, and they had to take a couple of existing filmed scenes with him and relight them and put them in subsequent scenes. You can see where they are, but I think it worked quite well. I'm undecided on the Leia stuff here, however. I teared up at her passing and the mourning of her friends and allies. To think that Fisher has been dead and buried these last two years as of this time...!

I agree. It's obvious they treated her scenes carefully and with respect to her memory. It was nice to see her one last time.
