Major spoilers, enter at your own risks

1) Leia was a Jedi, trained by Luke, has a light saber of her own but it was never shown with her, later was given to Rey by Luke (force ghost). In this movie Rey was trained by Leia.

I don't think that was planned from the beginning. Otherwise why did Rey seek Luke in the first place? Couldn't Leia have trained her from the beginning?

2) There was no explanation how Palpatine came back, other than "dark side has many abilities".

3) Rey is Palpatine's grand daughter, which from what I see it, quite hard to explain considering just how old Palpatine was.

4) In this new movie Palpatine asked Rey to kill him so their spirits would merge. And Palpatine was the merged result of all Sith. Rey refused and Palpatine regained youth (well, not as old as before at least) and strength by sucking the life force out of Rey and Kylo (That is new). Rey defeated Palpatine by channeling all Jedi (think witches in "The vampire dairies").

5) Rey immediately died afterwards (exhausted from the channeling?). Kylo revived her, Rey kissed Kylo and Kylo immediately died afterwards with a smile on his face, seem to be the consequence of resurrection. The whole thing felt arbitrary.

6) Palpatine had an entire fleet of planet killing star destroyers, but they all parked in close formation without shields, so they were just sitting ducks. I can not think why they were not properly deployed.

7) Force ghosts in this movie can hold light saber and lift aircraft, so I don't know why all the Jedi force ghosts did not gang up on Palpatine and did nothing to the first order.

8) All Skywalkers died in this movie (the end of Skywalker bloodline and heritage). In the very end Rey found Vader's uncle's abandoned residence, seemed to want to settle there (not opening Jedi academy or anything), and changed her name to Skywalker, probably ashamed of Palpatine heritage.

The entire movie felt empty, corny and ridiculous.

Fuck me... what a kick in the nuts this whole thing has been

Disney star wars in a nutshell.
Random stuff happening everywhere.
Destroys any rules the universe has.
If plot needs Leia to fly she Mary Poppins etc.
Thx for the spoilers. Glad I don't need to see this dumpster fire.

I got the impression Rey didn't need training anyway, really. She was doing advanced Jedi tricks and going toe to toe with Kyle in TFA.

I guess because the one teaching her was a woman, the writers thought it'd be acceptable.

reply

The training mostly focused on mediating and channeling Jedi, which Ray made no progress, and running around like Luke did in ESB, but Rey was not carrying Leia and there was no force teaching shown on screen, Rey was basically mediating with about 20 rocks floating around her, then running around alone.

reply

The rotating rocks was so embarrassing to watch.

When I read about the planet killing star destroyers, I couldn't believe it.

Each one could be considered the equivalent to big aircraft carrier. You have one in center of the each fleet and other ships around protecting them. That's modern military strategy 101. You have them always protected and you never put them together.

Actually, having several fleets with one planet killing star destroyer in the center of each one would have made Palpatine completely unstoppable. What the hell he's doing? He could have taken over the Republic in a few months, even weeks. So I guessed: he must do something incredibly stupid, because even doing something just stupid he would win without problems.

reply

Planet killing is a false pretense if that's what it is. Takes several destroyers to wipe out a planets population but I doubt it could kill the planet let alone destroy it. That's what Death Stars are for.

As for them being equivalent to aircraft carriers, NO! They're called destroyers for a reason... Super Star Destroyer is what would be considered equivalent to a aircraft carrier.

reply

According to the leaks they're Star Destroyers that carry a Death-Star-like gun, which means it can volatilize whole planets. It's like having lots of Death Stars... but for some reason he has them all parked together as sitting ducks.

Of course, the reason Palpatine has them parked is crystal clear: if he didn't, he would take over the republic in a matter of weeks. How do you fix that plot hole? You make Palpatine put them all together doing nothing 😂

reply

Yeah, all star destroyers now have a death star main gun, which is also the main weakness, hit the gun and the ship is dead. That probably sounds very familiar.

reply

It's only a weakness in the movie because they haven't deployed the shield.

reply

Agreed. And I think that is why the shield was not deployed. Otherwise that attack would have been beyond stupid. Calling for help would have been a convenient trap for the benefit of Palpatine (What a pleasant surprise, who knew they could be so stupid).

reply

That's exactly what it is, Kuku. They even demonstrate it on one of the planets, which is obliterated although the laser beam doesn't even look that effective at first.

In any case, I think the whole Death Star concept has become the crux of the entire franchise - almost every movie has had one BIG Death Star, a BIGGER Death Star, a MASSIVE Death Star... and now lots and lots of little ones! Really stupid!

reply

Yep watched it last night , what a desperate attempt to recton TFA and TLJ, id be embarrassed to be a writer and come up with this garbage , it looked great dont get me wrong but wow, what a completly stupid story

reply

So basically this DRAGON BALL JEDI. GORAY, IN THE FINEST HOUR OF DEFEAT BY EMPEROR FREIZA SUMMONS ALL HUMANS TO SEND THEIR PARTICLE ENERGY TO HER SO SHE CAN ONCE AND FOR ALL DEFEAT THE ENEMY BY DEFLECTING THE NOSTALGIC FORCE LIGHTING BACK TO HIM?

Also, if Palps was all sith, he'd have killed his apprentice as well. All sith would be consuming every other sith in existence even if raising one to be a mighty one to consume a strong power.

reply

I had no interest in seeing this film but this makes it sound like it might be a hilarious evening out!

reply

I haven't seen the film, but this shit sounds ridiculous. Ghost jedi can now perform physical acts? There goes the canon.
Funny - the film is called the rise of skywalker - huh?
All in all - the script looks like utter shit, as many expected it to be. Yet, reading the spoilers above, I'd say, other than the bit of ghost jedi doing shit, which.... makes no sense, the rest of the crap seems marginally less fucked up than the last film.

What happened to Leia though? She was alive when the last film ended, did they kill her off-screen?

reply

Kylo was after Rey (much like Vader after Luke in ESB), they had a light saber duel. Leia used the force to call on Kylo in middle of the fight from the resistance base and Kylo was distracted, Rey used to opportunity to stab Kylo. Leia died right after that, apparently that long distance call used all her strength, which felt ridiculous. Poe and Finn became resistance leaders after that, Finn however never shown any leadership moments, basically Poe was calling shots and making speeches.

Kylo was on the verge of dying. Rey healed him. Apparently light side now has healing abilities. Kylo's wound disappeared in about 10 seconds. And Kylo died and he is now Ben Solo, hallucination of Han Solo was there and had a brief chat with him, he threw away his sword and decided to be a good guy, at which point Rey already left.

That felt weird as well (He turned much faster than Anakin turning dark). Who knew Sith can be cured like that (the stab and heal therapy will kill off evil Sith spirits).

After some contemplation I reassessed situation as Rey healing him made him falling in love with her, that explains why he resurrected Ray at the expense of his own life in the end. I thought of that mostly because of the sudden kiss in the end. There was hardly any romantic chemistry between them to build up to that, so it took me a day to think of it.

In the new trilogy Jedi power is more like a telekinetic super power, Jedi has additional healing power and can turn into ghosts and Sith has force lightening and self healing (take life force of others and heal oneself) and all Sith spirits merge into one after death.

There are now also space related abilities, Rey and Kylo can have a light saber duel light years away from each other and can send and receive physical objects between them. So far that is only happening between Rey and Kylo. But maybe teleportation will happen in future.

Forecasting future is no longer emphasized as core Jedi ability, more like a random vision.
