I think they will say Snoke is some sort of façade put on by Emperor Palpatine, and that Snoke’s been the Emperor in disguise the whole time. Either that or Snoke will just end up being some random guy named Snoke who’s been there the whole time but somehow didn’t pop up into relevance until after Episode 6.

Hopefully the former because he must be explained in some way otherwise Snoke will be left standing as the transparent Emperor copy / paste joke that everyone laughably took him for.

At least JJ gets a chance at redeeming that in this film, which surely he will for the sake of his own creditability.

I doubt we will find out. Character development isn't a big thing in Star Wars movies.
