The characters shouldn't all be related

I don't care if it's supposedly the story of the Skywalker family. It doesn't need to be. I can accept Darth Vader as Luke's father. Leia as his sister was a stretch, but ok. Then we find out Kylo is Han and Leia's son! I'm sure Rey will be Luke's daughter, or some other Skywalker. It makes the story ridiculous.
Episodes 7-9 should have had a non-Skywalker villain with an interesting (and fully explained) background.

Disney used the original characters to rope in us old-timers and it worked out financially, but most of us thought they mistreated the characters. Therefore, I agree with your post.

reply

I hope not. I'm fine with Rey not being a Skywalker or kin to someone's cousin or whatever.

I don't want Rey to be Luke's daughter or related to any old characters.

why do the fans want Rey and the others to be related to the old characters?

I agree big time - it's one thing I thought Rian Johnson got absolutely right - there were thousands of Jedi before, they weren't ALL related (or even the same species). I thought having Rey be a nobody was simply recognition of the old trope that ANYONE could be a hero.

I didn't "want" it, but I definitely expected it. That's why I was pleasantly surprised by the reveal that she wasn't related to anyone.

I dunno, maybe people want everything to fit together. And while I did enjoy this last movie a lot, I'm still not too happy with the notion that only Palpatines and Skywalkers have any real significance in this galaxy.

Something else that's retarded is how episides 7-9 were made to mirror episodes 4-6. Add this to long list of things wrong with the sequel trilogy.

reply

ugh...I still can't get used to episodes 1-3 being called 4-6 and vice versa. So confusing. This is all down to a cheap marketing ploy by Lukas 20 years ago to make his crappy sequels sound more important.

reply

Lucas Bullsh!tted through the entire thing as he went along and the disney schnooks put the final nail in the coffin. Post-Lucas, i thought this mess could be managed, but these twirps knew no bounds and went totally, coke-snortingly insane with the whole goddamn thing!

reply

I haven't seen the movie yet. But from what I'm hearing some characters may be related. What a surprise!

reply

I agree. Kylo Ren is permissable but I certainly didn't want Rey to be tied with anybody, let alone Palpatine.
