The Producers biggest mistake with the sequels ...

....was putting Han,Luke and Leia in the films. They originally said the parts of these characters would be small and not the focus. Well of course all the Fannerds interpreted it as the three were gonna be the focus or they wanted them the focus. These should have been move forward films. No trio except for maybe one liners on their whereabouts. As it stands the prequels have more content and world building than the ot and St together.....

reply

If they did sequels without the originals that would be a worse idea. It’s a good idea to transition from the old guard to new characters.

reply

That was the original plan but than everyone got pissy because they killed them off. Han was a big part of tfa and Luke in tlj. But everyone wanted to see Luke jump in his xwing and save the day. Everyone wanted to see everyone together....etc.....there was no way they were gonna please everyone.

reply

Actually, it would be pretty easy to have all three characters together when all actors/characters were alive. TFA could have had the heroes together and then retire or be killed off at the end, leaving it up to the new characters to save the galaxy.

Also, no one is pissed that Luke and Han were killed. They're pissed because they went out like punks.

reply

LOL never seen a single person claim to have wanted Luke to jump in his X-Wing or save the day ...

It's one thing to die honorably or as a hero ... it's another to die a disgrace and failure.

It's not like people aren't used to death in the SWU ...

I wouldn't say the PT had more world building than the OT but it certainly had an immense amount that really helped to expand to lore. The ST obviously didn't bother with any of that.

reply

I'm one of the few who really enjoyed the prequels. Sure there were a few issues but overall they were full of story. When I rewatch the ot and St...there doesn't really seem to be much there.

reply

Lots of people enjoyed the PT. The haters are just more vocal and fervent. The OT established the rich Star Wars universe & lore and the PT did a good job expanding it further.

reply

Yeah, I really have no idea what the universe is like in the sequels. We don't know what the First Order is, we don't know what the Republic has been up to all this time, we never get a feel for any of the planets they visit (not helped by the fact that every planet looks exactly like the planets from previous films), and there's really no mythos there. The only expanidng lore we get is the casino they visit in TLJ.

reply

The biggest mistake made was no plan. Second worst would have been a plan that excluded the core three cast members.

reply

Hm. That is a very interesting point! Because yes, one of the big things that set the fanboys off was the way they showed Han, Luke, and Leia as not having the happiest of happy endings. Youd think Kathleen Kenedfy strangled their puppies, the way they carry on.

They could have set it a generation later, and said the First Order began to rise after the retirement of Galactic President Leia.

reply

I agree. Especially since they kind of messed with who/what those characters were. They are still doing the "blow up the super weapon" story and fighting the Empire/First Order story. The Jedi turned to the dark side story.

Move on. Come up with some brand new stuff. Move 100 years into the future and come up with some brand new stories and characters.

reply

Exactly. I'm sure there is more to that Galaxy. If anything the movie solo showed us a bit of that.

reply

How about a generation after the deaths of Luke and President Leia, when the New Jedi order has split into warring factions?

Really, including the original characters really did cramp the writers somewhat.
