Ho hum, who cares ...

To me, Star Wars, the original movie hinted at all these fantastic
ideas, and they had Joseph Campbell talking about the hero
archetype and a new mythology for the future ... all this hype over
slick special effects and a plot that was simple even for a toddler.

Star Wars was garbage. I admit it was fun garbage, but behind it
was the draining or our movies and media of any humanity or meaning.
The plots and the Force were absolute garbage when compared to
the very simple attempt of say the origina Star Trek series.

Simple as Star Trek was it gave a vision to what the US, and the UN
would evolve to be. People loved it and were hungry for that kind of
vision. Star Wars and most of the rest of movies never went near
these kinds of memes again, and all the successive Star Trek movies
and series were dumbed down with simplistic plots and ideas, along
with most of the rest of our media.

Our media is owned and controlled, especially the news, by the same
people who drill ideas into our heads or pry out the ones they do not
like or are scared of by fake stories or just failing to report them or
go deeply into analysis.

At the same time replacing our media with crime, sex, violence, and the
often vaunted "darkness" aspect of movies ( which just means the bad
guy wins ) like they replaced the food we eat with junk food. Our movies
drags down our culture and makes us stupid. No wonder we have to import
so many educated people from overseas, Russia, China and India while at
the same time complaining about the Southern border.

I'll probably see Star Wars at some point just because I liked the original
movie as a teen-ager and followed the hype, but I already know it will be
meaningless garbage.

Didn't say I'd be paying

Star Wars and especially the OT is a hell of a better than Star Trek, shit , even the prequels are better, media doesn't tell me what I should and shouldn't like , Star Wars is far from garbage, it changed movies for the better.

> Star Wars is far from garbage, it changed movies for the better.

Would you care to explain how Star Wars changed movies for the better, or is that too hard for your programmers?

reply

ILM was created, Lucasfilm, what followed after star wars was some of the best films for a generation, Indy Jones, Back to the future , ET, Aliens, Terminator, Blade Runner it changed how movies were made, from deep and meaningful to grand spectacular block busters, effects hadn't really evolved much since the 50s, hey , don't get me wrong, there are some great great films that I love pre star wars, but being born in the 70s and adoring 80s films I could see how Star Wars changed things

reply

Just because movies "followed" Star Wars does not make Star Wars responsible for them. The movies you mentioned were all superficial nonsense, so in that case you are saying they changed movies for the better by making them all superficial nonsense vapid special effects movies. I think we just have different ideas about what makes a good movie. Apparently you are still stuck on the movie you loved as a kid. Most of what Star Wars was was a rip-off of all kinds of older movie genre's, same with Indiana Jones. I remember kids love Star Wars, and Transformers and they bought all those toys and clothes ... the main thing Star Wars did to change movies was to invent the whole spin-off toy and memorabilia industry.

reply

Did you just say the likes of blade runner, terminator and aliens are superficial nonsense ?

reply

No I did not then, but i will now.

Terminator had some depth to it, so I'd remove that from the list.

reply

so what films do you like then ?

reply

I agree it was garbage and we have a full year of talking about this crappy franchise.

Then it was garbage too, or delusional wishful thinking at least. That series is a much more accurate vision of what the US would evolve to be.
