i feel bad for my 2013 self..

.. upon hearing the news of the Disney takeover and that Episode VII was coming and not in like 5 years but merely 2 years time was mindblow crazy (plus that the new trilogy would only be 2y apart not 3 and there'd be standalone spin off movies in between) and conjured up all kinds of cool imagery of old Han, Luke, Leia etc and where they'd be .. was thinking there'd be in environments similar to the prequels like Coruscant .. Queen Leia, Jedi Master Luke, General of the fleet Solo..and a new generation of hot young characters as the various offspring.. before the Sith would hit the fan and it'd all turn to rubble (actually that could've easily been Ep7 and then do something like they did for TFA/TROS for Eps 8/9)

So yeh if my 2013 self is somehow reading this ..dont get your hopes up too much son..

reply

Unlike you I knew from the beginning that this would be a horrible idea, my concerns proved to be valid in 2015 when TFA turned out to be a complete piece of garbage but it seemed everyone else was fanboying in their pants over it, however now it seems everyone else has caught on and realized how bad these new Star Wars movies are and that it turns out I was right the whole time.

reply

Indeed. The signs were there.. we just didn't want to see..

reply

For the life of me I cannot understand what people ever saw in TFA, 5 minutes in I knew it was going to be a repeat of A New Hope and I quickly discovered that they sucked out everything about ANH that made it good.

reply

Think everyone was so caught up in it being the 'omg I can't believe theyve made ep 7!' and Harrison Ford returning in a major role (not just a minor supporting role) plus Luke,Leia,Chewie,Falcon and the return of the familiar tech/props/sets/ships/look of the OT (that was all missing from the majority of the prequels), plus knowing that Lucas wasn't involved much and Kasden was back it was Abrams directing who did great with Trek (but in hindsight that should've raised alarm bells) and the Ford 'we're home' trailer it blinded everyone to the truth.. aside KyloRen all the new characters kind of sucked and ultimately TFA ain't that great.

reply

When I saw Rey in the first trailer "I have a bad feeling about this."

And my gut instincts are spot on. What a dumpster fire this turned out to be.

reply

TFA was a huge success and rated high with critics and audiences, so you werent right at all

reply

And now it seems everyone is realizing they were wrong for liking it. So yes I was right the whole time, TFA was a soulless cash grab that only made it as far as it did because it exploited people's nostalgia for all it was worth.

reply

Prove it ? You werent right at all , you were wrong, accept this

reply

Just look on youtube, just look on moviechat, there are countless hate videos/threads about TFA. It survived for a little while just because of the nostalgia bait but it has clearly worn off, I knew the whole time that making more Star Wars movies was going to be a bad idea.

Now I'm wondering what they are going to do now that all of the original characters are dead and now they can't even attempt to recreate the OT?

reply

I feel sorry for my 2013 self that was visiting Disneyland and totally bought into the Disney/Star Wars merging, and bought a few items from the new gift shops. I built myself a plastic toy lightsaber from parts in the bins and got a plush Mickey Mouse dressed as Obi-Wan. Boy do I feel ashamed now. Heck, I felt slightly ashamed just a year or 2 later when someone made a pitying, indirect comment on it. I didn't realize that they knew what was coming, but the rest of us didn't.

To be honest, I had no idea what Disney was gonna do about making new films. It was all completely uncharted territory in everyone's minds. Our only warning was hearing that the producers were planning on throwing out all the Expanded Universe stuff, and then I got very worried. Turns out, we all had every right to have that feeling of foreboding down the line.

If my current self could go back and warn my 2013 self what Star Wars was gonna turn out to be, my earlier self would be horrified.

MCU is the biggest franchise ever, most are fantastic movies , lots of remarkable moments in those 22 movies.

reply

Ultimately these movies came out and upset just about everyone .. to the point that I think everyone involved now sort of wishes they hadn't been (money notwithstanding of course)

reply

Wish it was still 2013 .. 7 years gone just like that *snaps fingers*
