What did Token Finn want to tell Rey?

Maybe I was half-asleep for most of the movie, but wasn't that unresolved? Was that supposed to be some shipper bs for the fanboys and girls?

reply

He was just double checking that he was still in the friend-zone.

"Token" Finn ? Use random discussion boards to vent your racism much? It's not funny. It's not okay. It's not relevant.

reply

I didn't read that as racist. I'm not a mind reader though so regardless of the OP's intent, "token black sidekick" tag along character is exactly what Finn was (even though he could have been much more) thanks largely to Jar Jar Abrams and the rest responsible for this complete clusterf*ck of a trilogy.

reply

What do you think about "Token" in South Park?

reply

Wasn’t racist quit your bitching

reply

If you're white , it's not for you to determine . As a mixed race person myself, yeah, it's friggin racist.

reply

Lol irony alert. That post is in itself racist. You need to go to sensitivity training , you are also a very special kind of stupid

reply

"If you're white , it's not for you to determine ."
Why not?

reply

She as mixed-race privilege.

reply

I think Alison has a lot of issues with race, she probably needs some counseling. She is determining two different sets of rules for people based solely on race that is the very definition of racism

reply

Who are you to determine what someone else determines is racist? Just because they are white they can't decide what THEY think is racist? Get the #$@ out of here with that nonsense.

reply

And as a 100% person of color I say no it’s not.

reply

Calling Finn "token" effectively reads as:

"I'm still not happy that black people are on the screen stealing honest-to-god white peoples roles , and they've only done it to to keep the quota up , its so not fair whinge whinge "

So , yeah , i reckon its racist.
p.s. It was fine when south park did it because that was satire.

reply

But maybe when he said it it was satire???? Attacking him for his race regardless is stupid. He was a horrible character and there are plenty of legit reasons to attack him

reply

Yes referring to the character is racist; but subjecting one of the only Black actors in the series to being the butt of every joke, make him a side kick buffoon, and constantly in positions in which he is humiliated; perfectly fine.

Calling him "token' is not racist; it is pointing out the negative way the character portrayed that is stereotypical of white people's depiction of black people; usually when those white people lived their life in intellectual thought bubbles and have little actual experience with non-whites.

The most racist people out there are the ones that say things like "orcs are racist" because they attribute Orcish behavior and for some reason perceive it as a depiction of stereotypical black culture. which is a very messed up, and telling, way they are seeing the character.

reply

Orcs are racist. They were originally bred by Morgoth to hate all Elves, men, dwarves etc.

reply

lol; not exactly what I meant. are you being Facetious? sometimes it is hard to tell in text format. If not I can try to explain to you the 'orcs are racist' claim, it is not about the actual characters in the fiction but the claim that Orcs are a representation of implicit bias/racism out of the part of the people that create and use them in fiction.

reply

Yeah, just making a little joke. I hadn't heard Orc used in that fashion before, but I got the idea from the context of your post.

reply

Oh yeah, look it up sometime; there are some people that make a legitimate claim they view Orcs are racist because they are portrayed as being a stereotype for Black people; which of course is insane (Projecting much?). Why do these critics of Orcs use in fantasy view the portrayal of orcs as being a black stereotype? Orc are non-human and supposed to be not relatable to humans. What in their minds says this is a stereotype of black people? If I think of a stereotype of black people I think of assumptions of liking fried chicken or listening to rap music. Not blood lust, low intellect and generally driven by hate, gluttony and blind obedience to evil.

reply

To me, orcs seem more like inbred, deformed hillbilly types in the vein of Wrong Turn or The Hills Have Eyes as opposed to black people.

reply

Personally, I do not see any resemblance to race or people; since the creator's intent was that they specifically were made to not resemble humans; I have to think that anyone that does see any similarities is just projecting their own internal prejudices.

But yes, if they were 'close' to any group of people; deformed and demented 'hillbilly' would be one. But even that is a stereotype; just because someone is from West Virginia or Tenseness or even is a 'hillbilly' does not mean they are inbred, low intellect, or demented (a la Deliverance) or anything. In the case of Hillbilly stereotype those are an actual people. Orcs are not, and are not suppose to at all resemble any human group or culture.

reply

Man it’s a damn shame we could have been friends, we agree on a lot. Oh well I hope you are enjoying your banishment

Since he couldn't say it with Poe around, I'm guessing Finn caught Poe sniffing her panties.

Check the scene where she walks towards Kylo's aircraft in the desert. 0:37:31 into the movie.

According to Carrie Fisher, Lucas once told her there is no underwear in space.
