UPDATE: THR, confirming the report, also notes that Lucasfilm is looking for a new writer to replace Amini and planning to scale the series back from six episodes to four.
So Kennedy had second thoughts about one of the key creative personnel she hired. AGAIN.

More and more proof she's incompetent and can't handle the position. She's been firing people right and left I'm thinking those bad scripts are ones more true to Star Wars than her SJW ideas.
At least now we know Obi-Wan show might end up in the same boat as the Sequel Trilogy.
Can't wait to see Obi-wan getting the Luke treatment.

shareIt really isn't. "The future is female" is a mantra spoken in all corners of Hollywood now.
shareAn effective leader exercises "my way or the highway" once decisions are made, but also seeks and accepts input from others with talent and subject matter knowledge before making the decisions. KK is clearly not into the latter.
Obi-Wan would absolutely get the Luke treatment with her still at the helm. The Agenda is evidently still more important than quality product or making money.
Ewan talked about his own self being difficult and not wanting to go ahead unless he thought the material was good. Which means he thought the scripts were great. If KK hated them, then i'm sure the scripts were what we fans wanted and Obi-Wan deserved. I hope Ewan torpedoes this project and never looks back. We don't actually need an Obi-Wan show/movie. It would just be cool is all.
shareI bet Ewan just really dosnt wanna do TV after Obi Wan was downgraded from a big movie (hed no doubt already signed on to do the movie... then after Solo bombed was informed later it would be a stream series instead and is trying to get his head around it now being a tv show and Disney be like 'well Patrick Stewart is doing streaming with his return to Trek..')
shareAnyone that thinks that an Obi-wan series is going to be a saving grace of this franchise has got to be fooling themselves. What kind of scripts would involve following a desert hermit around? They would have to come up with some really contrived nonsense that in no way could impact the setting of tantooine in any significant way. Besides that, the interesting aspects of Obi-wan's story have already been told from being a student to his death and beyond. Anything added now is going to be sub par in comparison.
The very concept is somewhat set on a doomed premise to start. But if it is for bad scripts that Kennedy is delaying it, yeah right; bad compared to what? The ST? She probably just doesn't like there is not a female lead. anyone wonder about if we can do a gender swap for Obi-wan Kenobi? I mean why not right? It's the 21st century why can't we have anything other than cis-gender characters? (I am being sarcastic btw)
A good writer could certainly make Obi-Wanβs time as a hermit on Tatooine interesting.

shareComedy hour aside, the extended universe showed Obi getting into trouble with the Hutts, local gangs, Tusken Raiders, and even other Siths. He also saved Lukeβs life from a distance multiple times. Im sure that could be a good place to start.
shareMaybe a good writer could do something with it, but it is a difficult premise to start at. You would have to somehow get Obi-wan into an adventure that neither impacts the events on tatooine around him or draws the attention of Vader and the Empire. That is a pretty big limitation on story directions.

shareMy idea years ago was that Obi-Wan has to work to strengthen the gangster Hutt's control over the system so that Tatooine remains too much trouble for the Empire to bother with, thus securing Luke's safe upbringing. But it leads to places like Mos Eisely sprouting up and the whole planet turning into a real crap hole. Like that crap is Obi-Wan's fault. Obi-Wan running around and making all kinds of shady deals leading to questionable deaths. That'd be a great movie.
shareThat is an interesting concept; it would make for an interesting and, if well done, a compelling story. I just don't think it would work as a Star Wars movie, in which you still need your space battles, or Space chases. I am not sure if you can get enough material out of just Obi-wan staying on Tantooine and getting involved in this 'gangster' wars. It just not seem like Star Wars, at least to me. I feel like I am not explaining this well, do you kind a get what I am saying?
shareOh for sure. My buddy told me the same thing. It's definitely not a Star Wars movie. Star Wars movies need to have adventure and excitement and spectacle. It'd be a better book but the truth is, i'm not even sure that makes a good Star Wars novel for the same reasons. Star Wars is very tricky property. You get too far off the core premise, you may as well be a Dune story or whatever.
shareExactly. And it is exceptionally difficult do the story 'in between' the main saga films. Because you know where all the characters were at and where they all end up. So you have to juggle the knowledge with also telling an epic star wars story. This is why an Obi-wan story in between III and IV is almost impossible to tell.
This is why a film like Rogue One sort of worked as it only involved main characters from the Saga in a very limited way. Even doing a Darth Vader focused story in between II and IV won't feel right.
For the life of me I have never understood the interest in always doing the stories in between the films (especially between III and IV). The universe is so expanse and so many different time era's to set a story in with new interesting characters. From the games you have the KOTOR story set before the films and you have the Jedi Knight series set up in the aftermath of ROTJ. So many great stories and characters can be created when you are limited by the era you set it in.
I don't know how well a movie would work either. It is possible to do an interesting story, such as what TandyMan suggested; but the problem with that is it does not contain enough big set action sequences to sell as a Star Wars movie, in which you still need space battles, blaster fights, space action etc. Not saying that is what 'makes' Star Wars, but it is a part of it.
shareStill better than trying to do a whole series. One adventure that might take Obi-Wan offworld while he's in hiding is believable and doable. Trying to do that with several seasons of a TV series is pretty much doomed from the start....
shareThat is true, Obi-wan's life in between III and IV is not going to have enough content to do a whole series. A movie focused on one adventure would work better. It makes no sense for him to be on like 'an adventure of the week' when he is a hermit hiding from the empire.
shareMandalorian already stole the best story idea. Which is that baby Luke gets abducted. And Obi-Wan goes on a cah-razy adventure to retrieve the little bugger.
shareI don't know, maybe I am just a pessimist but I can't see a Story like that working for the obi-wan. It works for the Bounty Hunter type character of The Mandalorian, just don't see it working for a 'jedi' character.

If the loudest complaint Disney is hearing about The Rise of Skywalker is that the film felt rushed (which it certainly could have been in an attempt to keep the December 20th, 2019, release date), taking a step back with Obi-Wan is the right move."
