Anyone else think this is the worst Star Wars movie?

Most people here think episode 8 is the worst, and it was, but after some thought I now think episode 9 is actually the worst Star Wars movie. It’s great on a technical level, but everywhere else if false flat and then some. It’s a complete clusterfuck and bastardization that’s supposed to be the bookend to one of the largest franchises of all time. It’s bloated, overly complicated, riddled with plotholes and inconsistencies, and is an absolute disaster in terms of storytelling. It erases stuff not only established in other Star Wars movies, but just the previous film before it.

8 is terrible. It actually somewhat redeems Episode 8 a bit for me, because at least Rian Johnson tried doing something with the nothing of the story JJ Abrams haphazardly undertossed to him. Why was Luke hiding on some planet? Not Johnson’s fault that Abrams wrote him to be there without reason in Episode 7.

Sad. Adjusted for inflation, it’s the 2nd lowest grossing main Star Wars film, only beaten by Episode 2.

Who else declares this be the worst?

reply

Just you and Rian Johnson fanboys.

reply

I literally said that Episode 8 was the worst Star Wars movie and still is the second worst in the series. I guess reading is pretty hard. You people are pathetic.

reply

Oh I read! I read this line you MF!

“It actually somewhat redeems Episode 8 a bit for me, because at least Rian Johnson tried.

reply

So I guess that line means I suck Rian Johnson’s cock, right? It’s pretty pathetic that you assume I can either love or despise a mans work with little inbetween. TLJ sucks, it’s a 3/10. This film sucks just a little more.

You suck it...you suck it good. The only thing Rian Johnson TRIED to do was upset the fanboys and he did.

reply

I guess he upset you pretty damn hard, it seems.

reply

Don't worry, BurningSun, I agree with your opening post.

Abrams simply copied ANH with TFA, but Rian Johnson tried to be different, but I don't think he quite knew how the rules of Star Wars worked. For Abrams to come back and undo what Johnson did just goes to show the childish and infantile leadership under Kennedy at Lucasfilm.

Don't mind him. He keeps bashing Rian Johnson and call people who love (or simply don't hate it) the 8th Star Wars movie fanboys... without even realizing that he, himself, is the worst kind of fanboy.

Btw, he does selective reading and only considers what gives him "argument "for his childish bashing.

reply

No I do not.

reply

this is the 2rd best star wars movie. the first is TLJ.

reply

What the hell is "2rd" meant to mean? You mean "2nd", right?

reply

I think you pronounce it 'turd'.

reply

It comes right before 3st and right after 1th.

reply

I think it has the worst script, but enjoyed the film

reply

Either you've neve seen episodes I and II, or you're just another fanboy who is going to bitch about anything Disney puts out, no matter how good it might be.

reply

Damn, the fanboys really might be as toxic as they say.

The prequels are mediocre at best, all within the 4/10-5/10 range. They aren’t great but at least they dont completely bastardize the original idea of Star Wars. At least they were made with passion and honesty, and at least Lucas atleast KNEW and PLANNED the franchise out before just blindly diving in like Abrams and Kennedy did.

But I guess anyone who disagrees with you must be wrong?

reply

Sorry. Nothing can top TLJ in terms of "worst Star Wars movies ever."

reply

Agreed! It is the franchise destroyer.

reply

I am one of those really weird people that thinks Episode VII was the worse. For me it was the one that broke the lore, characters and mysticism of the Star Wars universe.

reply

I can totally understand that. In a certain way, you’re right. I hated 7 upon its release for all the reasons you hated it, but I would now say it’s the best of the Disney movies because it almost feels like there was some potetional there. Some of it is still pretty cool.

reply

In comparison to what came after, yeah I can kind of see how there was some potential. But IMO all the potential was already ruined by the end of TFA. This is why I did not have the response to TLJ that many did, I was more like 'yeah, that is about what I was expecting after TFA'.

So I guess I don't know. Something was ruined in all of them to be honest. I think bringing back Palpatine to just let almighty Rey beat him. That might be the biggest insult. But again TFA set the precedent for Rey undermining and usurping the entire Star Wars story.

reply

Yes, this is the worst. Enough said.
