The studios destroyed Star Trek with that horrible dark and dreary garbage TV show. Macfarland introduced a Trek-like show that is resonating with the fans because it has the heart and soul of the original.
He's also a huge Star Wars fan! I think he'll respect Lucas' original vision from OT. I want heart and soul returned to the series with a large dose of respect for the original characters.
Um, there's one GIANT roadblock you're forgetting about: Kathleen Kennedy

They already shit canned Lucas' original ideas for the ST. She could give a rat's ass if Macfarlan's ideas respected the OT based off what we've seen in TFA & TLJ.

I thought the problem was with Disney execs who rejected Lucas' vision for the new trilogy - not Kennedy. it doesn't help when Lucas says he needs 100% control. He has great ideas, but he needs feedback to temper his worst impulses aka Jarjar; Midichlorians.
