This Just Came To Me. The Joker Is Right. (Spoilers)

So everyone is pointing out that Kylo Ren can't redeem himself for killing Han. Well, let's break down something and re-word it using a Joker quote, which proves the Joker quote to actually be right about society.

Anakin/Vader kills off a bunch of younglings/children in Episode 3 (Joker talks about blowing up a truckload of soldiers or some gang banger). No one makes a big deal out of it and applauds Vader at the end of Episode 6. Plus say he redeemed himself.

Kylo Ren kills Han Solo aka ONE GUY and someone important (Joker's example being the mayor of Gotham). Everyone loses their minds and says there is absolutely no way Kylo Ren can redeem himself.

So it's okay for Anakin/Vader to kill off a bunch of kids and be able to redeem himself, but Kylo Ren can't redeem himself after killing just one person? Han Solo was my favorite character, but killing off a roomful of kids is a little more serious. And at least Han Solo got to have a life. Those kids didn't. Anakin/Vader took that away from them.

Me personally, I don't think either of them are worthy to redeem themselves for what they did. But at least Kylo Ren didn't do something as serious as Anakin/Vader. But it looks like The Joker has proven himself right about what he said.

Good point about the younglings. Looks like Kilo will kill his mom in ep 8 too which must score mad Sith points.

I guess what Kylo did was about killing someone you love and loved you.

Anakin/Vader killed far more, but he thought he was doing the right thing, for the greater good, to "bring order to the galaxy".

Kylo did it for himself, for his training. I think that is the difference caused people's different views.

Anyone can go for redemption, what you did does not eliminate that possibility. Vader had followed the wrong path because he thought it was right but also for a more selfish reason because he wrongly believed it would save Padme. It did the opposite and he was trapped in the path he chose. He was able to break that at the end, it didn't make his wrongs go away but he did help destroy one of the most evil men in the galaxy and he didn't die being the evil person he had become. So a form of redemption.

I think the issue with Ren comes more from the character he is rather than what he did. Can he be redeemed? sure turning from the dark side and doing what is right will help do that. It does not however make the death of his father ok or the millions he helped kill forgivable.
