I'm just not interested in Star Wars anymore..

im not upset and im not protesting im just genuinely not interested. it could be that they oversaturated the market with star wars... or something but im off the bandwagon. i also think this movie will not to as well as people think it will i think the franchise peaked.

reply

Not to be rude but it is a bit ironic that you are boldly stating your lack of interest in Star Wars on a Star Wars discussion board. 'me thinks he doth protest too much'.

But in your defense the combination of TFA, Rogue One, Trailers for Last Jedi and Han Solo useless project has me pretty burned out by Star Wars too. Though I am still interested in discussing the films; in the same manner I would be interested in discussing a train wreck (like a focus on how bad it was and what caused it to happen).

It's called...GETTING OLD....

reply

I'm not that old.

reply

Late 20's and over you are getting old. That's when it begins. Interest in certain things start to decline...sorry..

reply

Well aren't you a bit of a downer. lol

I think my interest would not have decreased had the disney era Star Wars been good. I still like good movies but it seems starting in the early 2000's few of those have been made.

reply

I'm a young 97 and agree the prequels destroyed at least half of fan interest. And casting British actors in a quintessentially American epic.

Sorry...

reply

Actually for me the prequels did not kill my interest in Star Wars, despite the fact I thought they were bad; I was still very interested. I still loved the KOTOR and Battlefront games still played the Jedi Knight Series. It was disney star wars that did me in. TFA was terrible, Rogue One was better but still kind of a mess.

"And casting British actors in a quintessentially American epic."

Umm, a large number of the OT cast was British; I don't think the nationality of the actors matters that much. However I thought it odd that they 'forced' Finn to speak in a American Accent but had Rey speaking in a posh British accent, that was really distracting.

reply

Well as a hoary senior citizen I deserve lots of respect of course😄 And I disagree about the British affect. Sir Alec Guinness and all the other British cast in the original films were hoary senior citizens too. All the young roles were played with/as Ferris Bueller types. THIS made the films funny, because we Americans are intrinsically funny. We just are, and this is a great thing. Too, the American Graffiti affect can't be underestimated.

reply

Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, David Prowse, and Peter Mayhew were all about as young as the 3 leads. Granted the 3 leads were all American and now in the new Disney era they all seem to be mostly British. But as I said I don't think the nationality matters that much but I see your point.

reply

Shouldnt you be off pooping your pants or something Diggory??? In fact at 97 how are you even able to type competently??? Amazing...

reply

I type with poop all over my gnarled, rice-papery fingers. Sometimes the keyboard's a little worse for the wear.

Sorry, that's what you have to look forward to.

reply

Woo hoo. ..can't wait . .

reply

I'm not old I'm 37...

reply

Less than 3 years from 40. ...sorry OLD....

reply

Didn't get the reference...sorry CLUELESS.

reply

Yup...your minds going already...enjoy ..

reply

Only a child would write something so dumb!

reply

Dude I'm 10 years old. Give me a break already. .

reply

Missing Lucas? There's a possibility that if a great Star Wars movie is made in the future, you may want to watch it. I became burned-out on superhero movies and my favorites sci-fis like Planet of the Apes, Aliens and Terminator because of the mediocrity of the latest movies so I stopped watching them. Recently, I made an exception to watch Legion and Wonder Woman because they were better than the previous dreck.

reply

No one is. Star Wars is on the same level as any Marvel or Transformer movie now.

reply

I don't know if I outgrew it or they killed it, but I definitely don't care anymore. I will say i'm damn curious to see what Ron Howard does with that Han Solo movie though. He's always been one of my favourite directors.

reply

Same. Star Wars just isn't special anymore to me. I'll still watch the films but I'm not dying to be there opening night. I've become more of a casual viewer.

reply

As a (former) fan of Mark Hamill's, I can say without doubt that the conduct of all three initial stars during interviews was/is a huge turn-off. Harrison Ford was repulsive from the beginning, but sweet God, Carrie Fisher outdid any 1960's grand guignol Diva film from the 1950's or 1960's. Whatever Happened to Princess Leia...

reply

Agreed Ford's disinterest was a bad sign (but he hasn't been interested in Han Solo in 30 years. Carrie Fisher has been rather off putting since her coke filled years in the 80 and 90's. Hamill was the only one of the originals that showed enthusiasm but it was like a disappointed enthusiasm; which after the films release we learned why.

reply

Interesting. As I haven't seen any of the final three, I'm now interested. Maybe Hamill's subdued hissy fit mood has a legitimate reason. Think I'll finally get around to renting TFA from Redbox. I will *never* pay to see in a theater another politically correct--but Brit!--incarnation of Lucas ' strange inferiority complex, which robs the AMERICAN actors who made him a household name.

reply

There's a vid or two on youtube where they edit together all of Hamil's disinterest and disdain for the franchise together. Is disheartening and hilarious.

What's the link?

reply

Thanks! [EDIT] Oh, sh*T! Luke and Han don't meet? Screw Redbox. Hamill is 1000% right.

Kill original characters check.Female lead check. Token black guy check. Where is the transgender-gender fluid-genderqueer-pan gender variant the universe has been waiting for?
LMFAO

reply

Star Wars has always had a strong female, and Lando was literally a token black character.

reply

It is not that you outgrew it. The storytelling style that was Star Wars has been ruined by Disney. After Rogue One, I will not be watching the new star wars movie.

Lucas never reused a single theme through all 6 of his movies. In Rogue One, they reused not less than 10 themes seen in the other movies. It has been long enough that I saw rogue one that I don't remember some of the many problems I saw at the time, but one that comes to mind was that the characters were unbelievable. And a minor note, Lucas used different space craft in almost every movie.

From what I heard Disney shut out Lucas. And, there attempt at telling his story was feeble. Not interested anymore. Not going.

reply

let it die

reply

Complete opposite for me. I'd pretty much lost all interest after the disaster of the prequel trilogy, though I still retained my love for the originals. After TFA and Rogue One I'm more excited than ever.

reply

1. If you are here, you are showing more interest than you think.
2. Next movie is still 4 months away. See how you feel on December 15.
3. If you have really gone to the Dark Side, no problem. Tens of millions of new fans will replace you.

reply

I have to say it's the opposite for me as well. Although I did like and had nostalgia for the original trilogy, I was never quite the big Star Wars fanatic. And after years of not having seen the originals I thought I was through with Star Wars, especially when the prequels entered our lives. I mean for a good while I had little to no interest in the Star Wars world anymore that months leading up The Force Awakens... I simply didn't share many people's enthusiasm.

But somewhere down the line I got tempted to go back and watch the originals, and also gave The Force Awakens a chance. Result? I ended up appreciating Star Wars more than ever. Needles to say, I got pretty excited for Rogue One and now The Last Jedi also has my attention.

I do understand one's lack of interest in SW, but I believe the franchise is as exciting as ever and still has some surprises to offer.
