Will Episode 8 be a remake of The Empire Strikes Back?

I have a feeling they will follow the same recipe for this movie as well. Its basically going to be 3 remakes of the originals.

Have you read about Star Wars "Ring Theory"? It's a lot more than a simple ABC recipe they are repeating.

If Ring Theory holds true, the next installment will have two storylines (Rey's and Finn's), there will be a romance (possibly a love triangle with two best friends [Finn and Poe?] competing for Rey), asteroids, a bounty hunter, Luke will be the new Yoda figure and his island locale the new Dagobah, and a few other things that are dictated by the structure. I have a feeling it will also be revealed that Luke is Rey's father, Finn is going to avenge himself upon Kylo and become Snoke's new apprentice, and Kylo will join the Resistance.

reply

The "Ring Theory" is just that, a theory. And as all fan theories, it's intrinsically untrue.

reply

It's been proven on youtube over and over again & that's just with film evidence.

Unfortunately Rey is a nobody.

reply

I don't think so. It was a good thing that they chose a very familiar storyline as a base for this new generation of SW films. But now is the moment to branch out and be inventive in the SW universe without losing the 'feel' of the universe created..

reply

That's about the stupidest thing I've heard today.

I agree OP.

Luke will tell Rey near the end, that he's her father.

Rey will not lose a hand, because she is female and while these movies are more P.C, Kathleen Kennedy and Disney won't allow a female to be harmed like that.

Luke will train Rey like Yoda did.

There will be a big city like Bespin.

Billy Dee Williams will have a small part as Lando.

I think Finns big hero moment will be in saving rey From Snoke and Kylo Ren s trap and his Force Powers will come forth and Luke will see it and Lukes True last Apprentice will be Finn before he dies. I think Finns purpose has always been to protect and take care of Rey. Makes it much easier if both are jedi.

Yay. Finn's purpose in life is Rey, whether it's making her look good or protecting her.

Understandable, but you have to consider the fact that The Force Awakens is a very slight combination of A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, the latter in the senses of the following parallels:

1. "There has been awakening." ("There is a great disturbance in the Force.")

2. Snoke (Palpatine) and Kylo (Vader) discuss Rey (Luke), over holographic teleconferencing.

3. Kylo (Vader) strives to capture Rey (Luke), for rendering onto Snoke (Palpatine).

4. Finn (Han) gets taken out of service by Kylo (Vader): put into a coma (frozen in carbonite).

5. Rey (Luke) duels with Kylo (Vader), and escapes.

6. Kylo (Vader) makes a cooperation proposition to Rey (Luke), before the escape.

7. A sort of cliffhanger ending is presented, with the same musical score.

That being stated, it stands to reason that this episode will more so carry elements of Return of the Jedi and, well, something that moves the series forward.

It's basically going to be 3 remakes of the originals.
Is the new Lucasfilm really so shallow as to go that route?

I sure hope not. They got a free pass on Ep. 7, so this one needs to be almost all original. But I was thinking that either the First Order has to strike back or the Rebels do. The Rebels will have Luke and Rey and the FO will have a stronger Kylo and Snoke. At least this one will be released in May of next year.

Nope, PC at Disney means that Rey will not be allowed to suffer in any real way.

reply

Now come on, she may receive a slight scratch, as extreme as that may be. This is the darkest one after all.

I predict that either Rey will lose a foot, or she will remain uncontested.

Near the end of VIII, Rey will lose her staff.
