Not enough love shown for Snoke Hologram tossing Hux about

It maybe just gets lost among all the many, many beloved moments given to us by Rian Johnson but I never really see much said about this scene:-
https://youtu.be/jWN6nqNPHvM?t=0m52s

So he long distance skype calls in his hologram yet doesn't simply use the force to project himself light years away (the very thing which inexplicable kills Luke) but uses it to power an attack on Hux with no ill effect. Magnificent.

If only Obi-Wan had done this to whack Vader's head against a wall or something from the comfort of his Tatooine home - could have saved everyone a lot of hassle.

Yep. Lots of silliness introduced in TLJ that to me cannot be forgiven. The fact that Yoda can do force lighting. How about Yoda and Obi-Wan force ghost next to Snoke and BBQ him, or force lightning a New Order ship control to crash it. Just ridiculous.

reply

Holy hell I don't even remember that scene.

What a mess that whole shit movie was.

What's really pathetic is I think this is the best (well least bad) of the Disney Star Wars films and that is saying something. Thankfully we have the Mandalorian.

reply

I list The Force Awakens as the best Disney one.

reply

Well for me they are all on pretty much the same level of sh!t, but I hate The Force Awakens the most. I may be biased though towards the fact that everyone fanboyed in their pants over it back in 2015 and I saw it for the soulless, poorly directed cash grab it truly was.

reply

All of the Disney Star Wars films are soulless Poorly Directed Cash Grabs. Hell truth be told you can say that about every Star Wars movie after The Empire Strikes Back.

The first half of ROTJ was pretty bad and there were a few things that were obviously thrown in there to sell toys (cough Ewoks, cough). After Luke leaves to face Vader however ROTJ becomes Star Wars at its very best. Revenge of the Sith while I do agree has some problems did tell a good story and I find it to be a slightly flawed yet very enjoyable film. The prequels while they were certainly not as good as the OT overall (although I would put Episode III above Episode VI) were made by a man who wanted to tell a story. The Disney films were objectively bad by every measure and were made by a multibillion dollar corporation more concerned with getting their investment back than telling a story. One of my complaints about the Disney films is there are TOO MANY CHARACTERS and because the films are so crowded with all of these characters it's impossible to properly flesh them out and give them necessary character development, but of course it's obvious why there were so many characters: Because they wanted to be able to sell some more Star Wars action figures, it is literally the same problem that Batman and Robin had.

The Ewoks were in the second half of the movie.

"After Luke leaves to face Vader however ROTJ becomes Star Wars at its very best."

It was a carbon copy of what Luke did in The Empire Strikes Back. So it was star wars at its best but a paler copy of it and it was a lamer light saber fight..

"The prequels while they were certainly not as good as the OT overall (although I would put Episode III above Episode VI) were made by a man who wanted to tell a story."

He totally failed at telling that story and it was same story that Lucas told in a 90 second scene in IV.

There is nothing objective about Art. With that said you won't find me defending the Disney Star Wars movies, they are shit. To make the claim that the Lucas movies after V were anything but cash grabs is disingenuous.

Also Lucas' movies had numerous poorly fleshed out characters as well. I don't know if you where alive between V and VI, but it was two years of Boba Fett fever and Lucas just threw the character away without batting an eye.

I agree 100000% with everything said here

reply

I haven't seen the last one but yeah I'd also rate TFA above TLJ.

reply

I envy you. I can't remember a single thing about this movie that isn't sh!t.

No the problem here is the same thing that George forgot and messed up on in the prequels but old start wars George knew well "A special effect is a tool, a means of telling a story. A special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing."

I didn't care about Hux, I dont care about Snoke... and hence, I dont "care" about "cool cgi" no matter how impressive it is.

Partial retraction:-
Just seen this same nonsense in an episode of the Clone Wars cartoons.

Given the film Rian Johnson came up with, it is entirely possible that he didn't watch any films and only some cartoons. In which case the error in seeing this nonsense would lie with the Clone Wars overseers...

"many beloved moments"

Come back in 20 years, then see if this moment is beloved.

One precious moment I'll take away from this film is when Luke and Lei finally meeting after decades, Luke hands his sister the dice from the Mllenium Falcon.

Han Solos dice.

Lei holds them for a bit then throws them on the floor as if they were nothing.

Which mirrors when Luke threw the lightsaber away as if it was nothing.

Star Wars is all about mirroring!

General Hux don't get no respect.

reply

I swear this scene was played for laughs. That yell Hux lets out as he faceplants into the ground then his stiff body getting awkwardly dragged around is straight comedy.
