3 years on.. does this movie have any fans?

at all?

It just feels now that the general consensus by the fans/movie goers (not woke critics) is its considered the worst SW film due to the excessive SJW stuff/mishandling Luke and doing the whole subversion expectations for the sake of it, therefore overtaking Phantom or Clones, and the main reason Episode 9 sh#t the bed as it tried to course correct and overdid the fan pandering.

(Its like the way Star Trek Insurrection or Nemesis took over Star Trek V as worst Trek movie)

It seems even fans of the ST don't like it. I gave it a rewatch and it was so boring. I've gone back and rewatched the prequels a few times if for no other reason than the lightsaber fights.

It's bad, but I find Rise of Skywalker to be much worse.

All Rise of Skywalker tried to do was retcon The Last Jedi's failures. However, the stuff they replaced it with was no better.

Like the ridiculous twist of Palpatine magically surviving his inceneration in ROTJ, then going on to conceieve a child with an unknown character never shown on screen.

Even Rey being a nobody would've been a better twist than that.

Anyways, the trilogy was screwed from the beginning. They never really had a solid plan or roadmap for what they wanted to do.

Even Daisy Ridley said they had no plan and were just making it up as they went.

I agree that 9 was worse, because it was desperately trying to fix the crap in Last Jedi and cram two movies into one.

reply

If they made the story up as they went along, that would explain a lot.

reply

It's bad but I would argue that 7 and 9 were worse. TLJ at least had somewhat competent acting.

I think I remember a review around the time it came out said something to the illogical effect of “people didn’t like Empire Strikes Back when it first came out so The Last Jedi will become the best Star Wars movie.”

reply

I liked it quite a lot when it first came out and still do. It is the only new Star Wars film that feels as if it was made by someone with a vision.

There are people who like absolutely every movie they see. A subclass of that group is people who love anything Star Wars regardless of quality. I was that way when Star Wars first came out. I was getting Wonder Bread for the SW trading cards. Anything even remotely related to Star Wars was gold to me. Many have maintained that level of child-like fandom. Good for them. Surely it is a nice state of mind, right? Who is more fortunate, the prisoner who thinks his daily gruel is a feast or the one who suffers the moldy bread porridge like it was TLJ?

tl;dr The Last Jedi is moldy bread porridge.

reply

Perhaps you were eating gruel all along, but as a child you didnt realise.

Lucas: Hey , ive got 3 more bowls of that gruel I made when you were child
You: Hey , this gruel is watery shit , wheres the stuff you used to make.
Lucase: same packet mix.

reply

Perhaps. As I said, the lens of childhood lends the Midas Touch.

I accuse prequel fans of the same thing.
