Why didn't Leia simply call off the bombers herself?

After Poe disobeyed her and went on with the bombing raid, why didn't Leia, a higher ranking officer, simply countermand Poe?

reply

Um... because the bombers were under radio silence so they wouldn't be detected by the First Order !

reply

What's the point of being under radio silence when the First Order can see those stupid ships coming from the Resistance fleet a long way off? They have SENSORS.

reply

It's a TRAP!

reply

OK is it stated somewhere that they are under radio silence? It's been a while since I last saw it.

reply

Then how would Poe tell them to retreat? Getting out and using semaphore flags?

reply

Well... he was shouting pretty loud !

reply

I guess since the bombs fall down and the bomber crew aren't just sucked out of the hatch that there's clearly some kind of atmosphere at play, so maybe shouting would actually work.

reply

The whole trilogy bombed.

reply

The commander in the field directs the attack. Can't have two chefs.

reply

That's BS. "This is General Organa, belay that order! Commander Poe Dameron is relieved of duty. Red/Blue/Yellow/etc. leaders, I'm placing you under my direct command. All squadrons, abort attack. Repeat: abort attack!"

reply

It was necessary for the theme of the film where we learn that being a flyboy hotshot isn't good; don't sacrifice 99% of your ships for one big victory, that's not good. Unless it's a crazy Hail Mary move made by a general that destroys 99% of your ships for one big victory, that's okay since she's not a flyboy. Oh, and it is bad when you try to crash your speeder into a cannon to save your friends, but not when you crash your speeder into your friend's speeder to stop him from crashing his speeder into the cannon.
