a true failure even by basic filmmaking and storytelling standards

1. the basics of story telling is that besides spectacle, the things that happen in the film should move the plot forward. Ummm so why was the whole Finn story in it?? " we need to disable it for 8 minutes" (1 hour and 30 mins later). "we got betrayed, never mind". so why even include that whole thing in the film? it played no part what so ever and if cut did not influence it at all.

2. the horrible set and mise en scene. which when used properly is used to convey information about the characters or the scenario and events happening. SO what the Heck was snakes thrones room.... just red backdrop.... no foreground, mid ground, background... nope. compare this to the OT emperors thrones room. Wow what lazy filming..

3. character development was ignored. So wait Luke believes in the good in people so much he risked the entire universe and all his friends on the slim hope to try and reedeem his dad? yet was ready to slightly his nephew and best friends some because he had one bad vision? I mean come on if they at least explained it as some sort of old Sith temple or dark power grove okay ill buy it. and would actually be interesting if he went there thinking it was a Jedi one and realizes later it was Sith..

Exactly! How did anyone approve the horrible script? I'm expecting the next movie to bomb because this movie destroyed interest in the trilogy.
