Luke should've confronted Kylo Ren in person

Would have made for a much better ending. This force projection crap is such nonsense. Never happened before. Totally unbelievable. It would've been much better if Luke came out of exile to fight Kylo Ren in a climactic lightsaber duel. Maybe Luke is too powerful for Kylo, but can have Kylo fight Luke with the help of those Imperial Walkers and the Knights of Ren (what happened to them anyway?). I'd rather Luke go out in an all out fight, than to die passing out from making a video of himself.

hmm, I am not sure if this would have made it better for me. I have witnessed Kylo Ren fight a couple of times, even at Luke's age and assuming lack of consistent training it would still be hard for me to swallow Luke would lose to him even with the aid of the walkers. Luke would have been better used in some kind of sacrifice involving Snoke, a legit opponent(well he was legit until his lame death.)

Luke will be back in the next movie. Fan-service.

I doubt it. Mark Hamill referred to himself as unemployed about the same time that Disney announced that Yoda will be in the next film. The point was to ruin and then kill-off all the original characters in order for the new ones to be accepted.

The only fan service will be Yoda. Another Disney SW movie I plan not to pay to see.

Totally agree.

Definitely. Why show his X-wing hidden in the sea other than to trick viewers into thinking Luke had gone there in person. A combined X-wing - Millennium Falcon attack saves the Resistance and survivors fly away. Luke does an Obi-wan and lets Kylo Ren cut him down. We leave the theatre heart broken that Luke is dead but satisfied that he sacrificed himself to save everyone else.

reply

He did sacrifice himself to save everyone else, yet people still hate it...

reply

People might have preferred it if Luke had left everyone else to fight the Empire for twenty years and then died for absolutely no reason. Like Obi Wan did.

Does nobody remember the cave scene on Dagobah in ESB? Luke goes into the cave and fights Vader. I always took that as Yoda projecting onto Luke as a test. I think Johnson was screwed either way. If he gave us a traditional lightsaber duel people would’ve been like “oh wow, how original”. He decided to take different and unique approach and people hated it too.

reply

Nah. It was awesome the way it was.

reply

No it wasn't.

reply

Yeah, it was pretty rad.

reply

Not at all.

reply

It was BOSS!

reply

You would rather Kylo Ren killed Luke? Then what? What purpose would that serve the story?

reply

Better than the cop out of dying while projecting yourself onto a distant planet.

reply

Really? He humiliated Kylo in front of his army and let the resistance escape.

You think it would have been better if the FO saw the supreme leader destroy the legendary Luke Skywalker?
