I think part of the reason the ST feels a bit flat is how little chemistry/connection there is between the characters. I'm thinking of this "behind the scenes" video:

It's like, HAN,LIKE, AND LEIA! They meshed well together, and felt like a trio. With the main three in the ST, it's a bit nothingy.
Likeable characters are too smart for todays viewers :) . They think hate and depression makes an story more adultlike :) .

Han Leia and Luke should have been shown together in the first movie. What chemistry they had wasn't put to any use. Complete rubbish.
You forgot how Leia ignored Chewi completely and talked first to a complete and useless strange .... our beloved Mary Sue :) .
shareNope, I haven't forgotten that dopey scene. There's a possibility that Abrams will fix that scene with a good explanation and the last Jedi mess in Episode 9, but I'm not holding my breath.
