Okay, I'm just gonna say this...

So I just recently came across a new petition to make Rian Johnson admit the movie is bad... um... really? Okay, I have to say this.... what will that do? It won't change the fact the movie happened, it won't change the fact it was one of the highest grossing movies of the year, and it won't change the fact that IT'S. A. DAMN. MOVIE!!!! DEAR GOD!! Okay, look, I like chatting about movies as much as you do, but why are we making directors admit that they're movie is bad? That's like going up to Pablo Picasso with a petition to make him admit his art work is bad... Johnson spent almost two years making this movie... TWO YEARS!!!! He only did his job people, he was doing what he could do with what he had. Let's see, studios have a movie, and here's his movie. His movie reaches acroooooooss the room, and overpowers their movie, he. drinks. their. milkshake! *slurp* HE DRINKS IT UP! THIS IS STUPID! ARGUING OVER THIS MOVIE IS STUPID, IF YOU WONDER WHY SOCIETY LAUGHS AT MOVIE BUFFS, IT'S BECAUSE YOU DO STUFF LIKE TRYING TO MAKE A DIRECTOR ADMIT HIS WORK OF TWO YEARS IS STUPID!!! IT'S A FRIGGIN MOVIE PEOPLE, AND THEIRS BETTER THINGS TO ARGUE ABOUT AND MAKE BETTER, SO IF YOU THINK I'M JUST GONNA SIT HERE AND LET YOU BE THIS STUPID, YOU'RE FRIGGIN WRONG, BECAUSE I'M GIVING YOU THE FREAK OUT YOU DESERVE YOU FRIGGIN IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

reply

If the fans don't want Johnson making anymore Star Wars films, then it's necessary for them to voice their opinion in order for Disney to hear.

I didn't know about the petition until now. You're complaint added another signature.

reply

yes, asking a man who spent a lot of time and effort on this movie to say it's bad, makes total sense. Guess what he made more money last year than anyone else. why is that important? BECUASE IT'S HIS JOB!!!!!!!!

also for the record its *Your complaint. Not "you're complaint" because you're telling me "You are complaint added another signature."

Ya know, why don't you sign some petitions that, I don't know, MATTER????

reply

he made more money last year than anyone else.

No he didn't...

reply

highest grossing movie of 2017.... made more money.

reply

Disney made more money than any other studio...Rain made less than my pool boy L😂L!

reply

Star wars is Disney.... are you forgetting that small fact?

reply

[deleted]

And only in 2017. In 2018 (only 2 weeks after start) he fails to even reach top 5 of box office. This movie is as dead as possible.

reply

Still made money.

reply

By presold tickets mostly. And now that KKs reputation is destroyed who will prebuy tickets for any of her films again?

I agree Michael. What will having him admit it's bad actually do? He'll be moving on to different things from here, his work with Disney is done for now. Some people liked it, some people were way too dramatic and called it the worst Star Wars film ever. Who knows if he'll get another one or not. If he does maybe i'm sure those who liked this will support another. Those who didn't probably will not. That's for Disney execs to decide. Why he is being asked to disown his work is a mystery.

I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see and if you have any thoughts or criticisms, i'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance. Review is right here- https://youtu.be/nerCnafPUm8

reply

So that he is able to learn from his mistakes. And not "some" call it the worst Star wars movie ever. The majority called it the worst Star Wars movie ever!

reply

Typo. No biggie.

That petition made me laugh so I rewarded the writer with a signature.

It's not an either or situation. I can do both. Actually, if something is important, then I don't sign online petitions. I find other ways to support it that will create real change.

Johnson's salary doesn't change the fact that he's a hack.

reply

Johnson only did his job and had success with it, so why are you getting angry at his success. His success doesn't affect you

reply

He's a soulless hack who deserves all the contempt we can heap on him, so there

reply

no, because it's just a movie. You're letting a silly movie have an affect on you, and acting like its killing you. It's just a movie, and you decide if it has any power over you. At this moment, I see it having power over you. It's just a movie, and this movie coming out doesn't change anything in our world, or in our society. Their are movies that do that, but Star Wars: The Last Jedi isn't one of them.

reply

"...because it's just a movie...."

If it's just a movie to you, then you're not a Star Wars fan.

This is the soul of a true fan:

My eyes tear up each time I watch it.

reply

no, these movies have been a big part of my life, but it comes to a point where you say "Is it worth it to get angry at, or is their other things to get angry at?" It's just common sense to know they're just movies, and they only impact you if you let them.

reply

Is the Mona Lisa just a painting? Star Wars is much more than just movies.

The Star Wars movies are masterpieces. Star Wars revolutionized films in general and science-fiction specifically. Just watch any sci-fi (exception 2001: Space Odyssey) before 1977 to compare the difference. Great music, FX, storytelling, design, creativity. Important messages about family, politics, and hope. The OT allowed people to root for heroes again after Vietnam and Watergate. The PT warned us about tyrannies born from failed democracies during the rise of terrorism. They're also just plain fun.

Fans have a passion about them. One by one, I watched different franchises destroyed by Hollywood hacks: Star Trek; Lord of the Rings/Hobbit; Alien; Terminator; Planet of the Apes. I think fighting to maintain Star Wars quality is worth a fight.

reply

You don't know what "affect" anything has on me or what I think about anything. Why do you care about a "silly movie" then?

reply

because we all have a choice if thy affect our actions or not

reply

If I see an untruth being perpetrated - a massive deception, a betrayal even - is it not right for me to express the truth as I see it?

reply

Or is it a choice to make it a betrayal, and force others to see that belief?

reply

Doing the worst star Wars movie ever, which didnt even got the income of Rogue One at many countries is a success in your world :) ? The finanacial desaster of that movie was only limited thanks to tons of presold tickets. But when the presold tickets were all gone, the movie was the biggest desaster in Star Wars movie history.

reply

You seem to know a lot for a guy who can't spell Disaster. Either way, the movie still made quite a bit of money. And the reason I'm fighting this is because I'm defending a lot of people's jobs. They gave their all just to put bread on the table, and people are taking that away from them, all because they're pissed the movie didn't go their way.

reply

Are they going to be unemployed during the highest employment of people Hollywood has ever seen?

Do you see how long the credits are these days for TV and movies?

GTFO gaf!

reply

Directors never admit their work didn't pan out until after the movie stops making a certain amount of money.

Steven Spielberg wouldn't admit IJ4 was less than perfect until years after it's release and even then he blamed it on Lucas's writing stating he directed to the script with best of his ability.

Neil Blomkamp didn't admit Chappie had serious issues until 2 years after it's release.

A petition is just another way to get his attention. That's the only objective.

reply

Yeah but it makes no sense because it's just a movie. What will it fix if he admits the movie is bad? okay... what now? Theirs nothing anyone can do. The movie happened, and was released to great success. People did their jobs and they did it well according to their critics and most movie going audiences. And at the end of the day, it's just a movie and theirs no reason to get angry or upset about it and make an artist fell bad about his work.

reply

Well, in this case, speicfically Star Wars is not just a movie. It has a huge fan base that really enjoys it and spends lots of time playing related games, rewatching movies, and other things they invest their time in. They including myself get really excited and can't wait for each new release. When a blockbuster movie is made they expect a certain level of quality. When that is not met they deserve to express themselves IMO.

Now had RJ made a completely original movie and people didn't like it I think they should just say hey it's a bad movie and move on. But when it's Star Wars and you make the creative decisions he did he should get some serious heat for it. 5 different directors have worked in this franchise for the major releases and none of them messed up anywhere any remotely close to him.

The Petition is just another method of expression. I personally think Johnson needs to look at his movie and really think about its criticism it could help him grow as an artist.

reply

True, but all art is subjective. What if a new person who may want to give star wars a chance liked the new movie, and wants too be a part of this fan base, but sees how we treat the directors, what makes him want to be a part of that? It seems like a negative place to be for a new fan of the franchise. every action has an equal opposite reaction, and those actions have consequences.

reply

Yeah, I don't think any new fans should have any obligation to take part in the petition. It's not the entire fan base doing a petition just those who wrote and signed it. Nothing wrong with liking the new movie but don't tell others not to express themselves as well IMO.

I also think if you wanted to try out star wars maybe watch the 6 movies that have been out for decades first before going in to watch part 8. I wouldn't decide to try out Iron man on Iron man 3 I think I would watch the first. I also don't think I would go into the Hobbit battle of 5 armies without seeing the previous Hobbit movies or LOR first.

reply

Michael, Star Wars is dead now. There will be no further star wars film made. All that will be released are Disney films with the Star Wars label used.

And no, its not subjective when the clear majority states that this is the worst Star Wars movie ever.

reply

majority? Or people using multiple accounts?

reply

Or the russian government! Any other conspiracy theories left?

reply

It isn't a conspiracy, it's a fact that has been proven by those who actually did it.

reply

I see. Thats why RT clearly stated that thos figures are perfectly fine. And at MetaCritics (also a popular site) its even worse.

reply

Is it just a movie? Also, could you please answer this question: Is it just a movie? Because it sounds a lot like you’re saying it’s just a movie.

reply

[deleted]

Nope, still no success. Its the worst star Wars and it failed after the presold ticket were used.

reply

Also theirs a difference between the artist sitting down and saying his art is bad, and making the artist sit down and force him to say his art is bad

reply

It would be more effective to simply skip his next Star Wars movie... money talks...

reply

Yes and Rain's movie made 800 million less than The Force Awakens. Disney cares about that--they care a LOT. That's all Disney DOES care about.

reply

Yeah, money talks...

reply

I can't wait to watch them toss Rain on his ass. But the true Palpatine here is Kathleen Kennedy and her SJW agenda. If she wasn't such a feminazi bigot she might see that Star Wars already IS full of diversity: Humans, humanoids, aliens and droids all coexisting across the galaxy.

reply

Funny, you're angry at a person for forcing their beliefs on you, while forcing your beliefs on others... interesting. It's almost like you two are very similar in that aspect

reply

What belief am I forcing here?

reply

This film may have been the highest grossing film of the year but it made just a little over half of what The Force Awakens did. Disney cares about THAT. THAT is what Disney will focus on moving forward.

Amazing--The Force Awakens made $2 Billion and this film made $1.2 billion and you guys still don't think was a divisive movie?

reply

Why are you yelling? If you dont like the petition, dont sign it.

Why is this even a topic on these forums?

I'm signing the petition because of you.

reply

Mike,
Next time you might want to throw in a paragraph break or two, and not use all caps so much. Both of these make your post difficult to read. Just sayin'

IT'S A FRIGGIN MOVIE PEOPLE, AND THEIRS BETTER THINGS TO ARGUE ABOUT........

@TLJ is far more than JUST a film …it’s part of something big...it's part of the Skywalker saga…. there are seven correlated films before TLJ in which it is established , among other things , how to become a Force user…. being Force sensitive is just the beginning ..either Jedi or Sith : ONE MUST TRAIN to be able to use the Force .

And Johnson justifying Leia’s (unnecessary) Mary Poppins’ scene is like giving the third finger to Star War fans whose love and devotion has made Star Wars the multibillion dollar franchise it is today.

Keeping silent would mean that we are willing to accept Johnson's crap .

It’s obvious that Johnson didn’t care or bother to do his homework before writing TLJ so he deserves all the justified criticism he is getting.
