why have more screen time for poe

if he just going to stuck on the ship with nothing to do for most of the movie

reply

Because the theme of the movie is failure, and we had to watch him fail. You know how when the hero has an idea and the highups dont want to hear it, but it turns out be to the right thing and the hero gets a pat on the back for going against the higherups? Well, this was the other side of that.

Poe got a LOT of people killed because he didnt think, he just acted. At the end of the film the lesson is learned when he doesnt go running out to help force projection luke which would have once again got a lot of people killed. Instead he thought about the people around him instead of attacking those against him. Why did we need this story ark? I have no idea. Perhaps because hes to be a leader in the rebellion and needs to be shown to have learned something from those that came before him.

I like that. Ties in with when Rose broadsided Finn to save him and said much the same thing - we win by saving those we love.

What I don’t get with Poe though is why he wasn’t immediately thrown in the brig and court martialled for disobeying direct orders

That is a good point. I can only assume because they had done the same type of things in their day and knew he was coming from a good place, rather than actually trying to highjack the ship. Laura dern did say something to that effect Im sure. Something about "hes a handful, I like him." Something like that.

Yes, Holdo did say that 😊
