Not to be grim but we could at least take solace in the fact that Leia's story would be closed and not because of a real-life tragedy.

shareI don't think so. Colin Trevvorrow (who's directing Episode IX) mentioned how he had plans for Leia in his movie if I recall correctly

shareWho knows? A lot of people were talking about it after Han's death in TFA. I think they expected a major character to die in Episode 8, either Luke or Leia but seeing as Star Wars has been about more tied into the male Skywalker side of the family, I think Luke's going to be the one that won't die.
He still hasn't totally completed the prophecy...

Death is the standard breach for a complex prize.
Leia was suppose to die in episode 8. That is why no one is throwing a hoopla over Fisher's death. Luke will die in 9.
