You can't write off general Leia

Leia can't go to some far away place like Paul Walker's character did. She leads the resistance and her son is one of the main villains and a central point of a trilogy. The footage for episode 8 is shot but if her character lives through the movie, they might consider a CGI body double and a blaze of glory death for Leia.

Nobody "writes anyone off". The franchise can serve only a limited number of characters and has to reflect the audience. Sorry, but actors who are over 50 don't exactly fill that purpose.

Well Carrie Fisher died so they don't really have a choice. A CGI Leia would be really tacky and laughable. A completely different thing than Peter Cushing.
