Is it too late to kill off Leia in Ep. 8?

Apparently filming has wrapped. Would Leia's role getting rewritten along with reshoots have too much impact on the over all story for a movie that is a little less than a year away? Is it too late too make these changes to the story? I'm not too crazy about using CGI for Leia in Ep.9 or recasting the role.

Depends on what her story is in VIII. It might be easy to kill her off via reshoots, or it might be impossible. We just don't know yet.

The last rumor was that they "wouldn't need to address it" until Episode IX films.

That depends. If Johnson put Trevorrow in a really tough spot by setting up something massive for Leia, then he should change it via reshoots. That's not fair to the next director.

I agree, but it doesn't sound like they are going that route.

I bet it geopardizes their stupid movie, that's why Disney held emergency meetings to deal with Carrie Fisher's death. They had a fit Mark Hamill ready to kick ass in 2014 and what did they do? Let grumpy old geezer Harrison FOrd take tha patriarch lead only to be killed so he can go home with $30 million and never get back on a Star Wars set. They set up Leia to be the main old character although she refused to exercise and lose weight for the role. Kathleen Kennedy wanted a female matriarch for the new trilogy and now they're screwed.

reply

She DID exercise and lost weight. What did her in was her refusal to quit smoking.

They could get a stunt double to perform her death scene. She could be on a ship that blows up or something like that.

reply

lol...yeah that'd be a great send off for someone who just died, real respectful. Better to do a nice ride off into the sunset transition from the series for her than write an actual death scene...

If you consider how they got rid of Han Solo, anything is possible with the jerks at Disney story group.

reply

It would be really tacky to have her character be recast or be done in CGI. It would also be pretty disrespectful to have her die now. Best option is just have her "go somewhere." Have her character leave the story. Sorry, that is the only option at this point.
