Rey and Kylo Ren are possibly going to be the most powerful force users in a long time, at least. What we're meant to be gathering from the current situation is that the Force is "awakening", and becoming stronger throughout the galaxy.

This is why Kylo can do things we've never seen Jedi or Sith do - freezing blaster bolts, extracting actual information from people's minds, etc, and why Rey is naturally more powerful than most untrained users right off the bat.
