Worst job by Lucky Mckee....

Movie started off good. But it felt so rushed. Characters popped up out of nowhere without proper introductions, like the Goth Friend. Or how contrived it felt when the Goth girl who seemed like an outcast showed up to the back to school party to perform magic in plain site, it just didn't feel right.
Or how the main girl's original plan is found out. You'll ask yourself, who goes through someone's information like that.
Lucky McKee is one of my favorite horror directors. His movies usually have a good build up and character. Teenie Cheerleaders aren't my thing, but I was hoping he could show me something more with this. This seemed to pander to the MTV audience- cheerleaders, I get it.

i respectfully disagree. before i watched this i thought it looked stupid but i was very surprised at how good and how much fun it was. i had no idea this was from Lucky McKee. this is easily my favorite film of his.

The goth friend shows up when she's making the video right at the beginning of the movie. Perhaps you were having trouble following who was who? I thought the characters were made very clear and I don't think anyone appears prominently later on who wasn't featured clearly at the beginning.

And who goes through someone's information like that? You might remember that this is the same character who wandered into another person's house uninvited and started raiding their fridge?

reply

I rewatched it and noticed the goth girl from the intro. I must of blinked or stepped out to get the popcorn or something.

but this movie did feel very forced in my opinion. After they get their powers there isn't really any story, or any real consequences for actions. I'm hoping the sequel brings that in besides making it another boys vs. girls movie.

And c'mon, the main goal of the lead actress? You raped me, so now I'm going to ruin your senior year with my elaborate plan to inconvenience you? Call 911 and watch his football empire crumble.

reply

Conviction rates for rape are extremely low. They were alone, so it would be simply her word against his. Calling 911 would not help. She reckons (possibly correctly) that if she brings in the police and it doesn't lead to a conviction, she will be labelled a liar and derided by peers and teachers alike.

I'm not sure what consequences you were expecting. For example, the first guy they kill, there's not really enough time in the film for his death to be investigated. First of all he'd have to be found by friends or relatives.

I'm actually wondering what the consequences will be when...
the protagonists' friend realises that all the cheerleaders and football players are dead - and that it's basically the protagonist's fault.

I agree and disagree. I agree that the beginning was really strong, and it kinda went a bit off the rails in the middle, but not so badly that I felt it wasn't a good/fun movie.
Cheerleaders are a classic horror film prop, as are witches, and lesbians... sadistic football players. So none of that is really bothersome to me. I think he did is not innovative then at least interesting and fun things with it all.

reply

I like his stuff but this was not working for me. There were a couple of good kills but overall it seemed... whiney?

reply

Not the worst. I think that belongs to The Woman. I just couldn't get into that film...But All Cheerleaders Die wasn't bad! It's a fun little horror flick. It wasn't as good as May, of course. That's his best film so far.

reply

I liked "The Woman" the best. "May" is cool too, but I mainly liked it for Angela Bettis' awesome performance. I thought the way it was written was a little confusing. (I never understood why May seemed to shove glass into her eyes at one point.)

reply

I liked The Woman also. I'll watch almost anything with Angela Bettis. She was good in Scar also.
