Great movie but they completely ruined the ending

That was such a cliche *beep* ending with her opening her eyes after the tormentor spoke about all her regrets.

It should have been a brutally real ending because this was a brutally real movie. Avery should have been ostracized from society for the rest of her life.

Did she die though? I dont understand all those vigil and prayers then

reply

Yeah I was a little confused by those at times. They were acting like she had died.

Avery was saying how it was her fault she committed suicide and how she should be the one not breathing. I think she did die. Maybe the eyes opening was just artsy.

Exactly. You don't just wake up after the doctor says you're in organ failure and should pull the plug.

"What would you like to see on your honeymoon, Mrs. Cord?"
"Lots of lovely ceilings."

She didn't die. Someone else posted this website on another thread and I checked it out. It's www.agirllikehermovie.com/aftermath. It has an interview with Jessica 3 months after she came home from the hospital and an interview with Avery 6 months after.

Yes I just reviewed it and gave it a 9 instead of a 10 and it was because I hated the ending. Oh boo hoo the girl feels bad I should feel so bad for her. Please. A problem with movies like this is that it does not have a good resolution. I needed to see her expelled and in jail, and it was nothing like that. Of course I couldn't say that in my review, but whatever.

The ending may have been a little cliche but I thought it was much more powerful than what you're proposing. You just want to see her punished, which I get. But I'm glad the movie was more than a revenge fantasy. I'm glad we got to see and understand both characters as human beings.

It's no so much punishment as it is actually seeing Avery dealing with the consequences of her actions. Consequences when you learn from them can make you are stronger and better person. We don't see that which is why it just seems like she's more embarrassed about it than truly sorry. It doesn't have to be a revenge fantasy but you can't coddle a bully just because they have a rough life. How many people have it way worse than that with no support but still live their life without hurting people for enjoyment. Which is also a problem that was not addressed, the fact that she enjoyed destroying Jessica emotionally needs to be addressed.

I agree; it would have been stronger (and more realistic in this specific case) for Jessica to die and for Avery to have to face the aftermath.

It was a great place to put in a plug for organ donation.

Comparing this to actual events, it seems realistic. Where bullies most of the time do realize what they done, and don't get a harsh punishment. The bullies do go on to leading normal lives after.

I do agree that in most cases they deserve bigger punishments, but it doesn't happen.

Spoilers...Major one ahead. But many bullied teens who try to commit suicide fail to succeed. So this is not an unreal ending. To want help for someone who has committed wrongs is what being a caring, feeling and loving human is all about. You need to learn to feel for the characters. I was so moved when Avery broke down, realizing the harm she had done to Jessica. Why should Avery be ostracized for the rest of her life when she has finally realized what she has done and can do so much to steer others away repeating the things she has done?
