Esther's Bra Strap!

As Xerxes is heralded and his procession goes through the streets near Esther's balcony, Lo and Behold she reveals a bra strap! In the next shot it is gone though. Thought this set the tone for the rest of the movie lol

The rating was at 2.7 when I came here, and after writing my review just five short minutes ago, it has shot up to 4.6 wow? Thanks for the Bra strap huh?

BTW - There are so may other things that seem anachranistic, even the dialogue! Can anyone tell me if they used "null and void" in that time period? Xerxes said his marriage is null and void.

reply

According to Miriam-Webster Dictionary, "null and void" was coined around 1555, or 2017 years after the story took place.

Another term mentioned in the story, "to the victor goes the spoils", was coined by a US Senator in 1832, or almost 2300 years after the story took place.

When Xerxes basically judges between Mordechai and Haman, they yell "TRAITOR". Random House Dictionary shows its origins to 1175, or 1650 years after the story took place. Same thing with "TREASON".

Thanks simpsontruckdriver. The acting and dialogue of the movie just didn't seem to match the time. This is indeed one of the worst movies I have ever watched.

reply

Actually, I saw worse... "Baby Geniuses". This one was probably a 4/10. If you haven't seen Baby Geniuses, don't: that one is excruciatingly horrible.

I can't believe they used modern English! The dialogue should totally have been in 5th century BC Farsi!

5th century BC Farsi!

Funny you should say that. "Farsi" is the Persian word for "Persian." "Persian" is the English word for "Farsi."
That is, unless you're speaking EspaƱol. or Deutsch, or Francais, or maybe Helleniki.

"Without further ado." From the Middle English, about 1250 AD.

And it's a dark colored one. If at least it were of the same color as her dress...
