When I saw Valerie Mahaffey walk onto the set as a dignified socialite, I knew there was gonna be some sort of twist. She always plays characters who are totally off-kilter. If "The Powers That Be" is still on You Tube, check it out, she's absolutely hilarious as the condescending, status-conscious wife of suicidal (and then-unknown) David Hyde-Pierce and mother of a very young Joseph Gordon Levitt.
