Can season 2 improve its storylines

Now that the first season is done I wonder what can be done to improve the show if it returns for season 2 since I hope it gets a full season of 25 episodes considering how there will be a crossover with hot in Cleveland's fifth season.

New writers. These writers used up all the standard sitcom storylines in 13 episodes. I didn't think anything could get too worse than the sleazy manager Madison can't fire, but then they came up with trying to impress a college professor by googling and wearing a wire.

I had high hopes for the show at the start, but this really went nowhere throughout the season.

I just finished watching the first season and I have to agree. The cast is great, there were little shining moments throughout... and a whole lot of annoying, formulaic sitcom contrivances. The episodes with John Travolta and Jason Alexander were particularly groan-inducing -- couldn't they have come up with something better for those two? And then there's Arlo, who's supposed to be the straight-man/voice-of-reason amidst the insanity, but he really didn't have a lot to do. Since he was a bit corrupted by Kathy Griffin and the cook, it would be interesting to see them explore that further as Arlo's sucked deeper into Maddie's world. Most sitcoms hit their stride in the second season and I hope that they get the chance to try.
