Very disappointing final season

Took a 180 turn, felt like a different show. The whole show is about a celeb who is not a star who lives in LA, His connection to "the scene" is vital between his circle of friends, his podcast and his standup. He is an aging hipster but has enough experience and edge that he can get away with doing things which puts him in or near that category. It was a very interesting take on life around the biz and around LA with a complex interesting person. But for the last season he turns into this weird even-angrier, even-dooshier penniless, homeless, whoring, drug addict loser.

It was so over the top for him to constantly be within a whisker of being a street sleeping bum while losing every cent of his savings. It was too much and the show was way too dark and disturbing.

Then they tack on a cliched, pathetic ending - the only thing that can make you feel worthwhile as a human and not want to blow your brains out is to love a child

Give me a friggin break please. I thought if any show wouldnt go to that standard b.s it would be this show

million years of human development and we still come back to caveman thinking, wonderful, thanks Marc & co

Sadly I have to agree with you. I absolutely loved seasons 1-3. Funny and the show felt real to life. I did enjoy season 4 to some degree but ultimately it was very dissapointing.

Ï'm gonna rewatch the show soon but I'm thinking that I'll skip the last season. It was too dark and depressing.

Dorothy Mantooth is a saint!

I am not sure that this is really what the end tells, given his expression.
Towards the end the show gets more biographic, where at the beginning it was more or less a string of annecdotes. The last season works very well when listening to his podcasts. There is a certain approach this show needs, a lot like Louie.

It worked very well for me and with the last season the show becomes a nice package with a proper ending.

Why Maron’s last season didn’t work

Kevthewriter shares his thoughts on season 4 of the IFC sitcom, Maron.

Of all the TV shows going on, Maron was a pretty underrated series. No one really talked about it but it was entertaining enough to make me want to watch more. It’s no Louie but it was still a decent show. Of course, it might’ve been partly due to the fact that it aired on the IFC Channel, a channel that, besides maybe Portlandia, no one watches. But, while I liked the first 3 seasons, the fourth season wasn’t very good.

That was an interesting read. I agree with it mostly, but I didn't have a problem with the fourth season being more story based, it was just that the story wasn't very good, it got too dark and the comedic moments were almost totally gone. And I hated the ending, it was like they thought viewers would like an ending where Maron realizes that settling down and raising a child is what life is all about. But if you are familiar with Maron's stuff that doesen't seem like him at all and the show was based on him. Still the first 3 seasons are great.
