I think the individual pays. If they have a round trip ticket, they probably exchange it for an earlier flight.

reply

They don't pay. They're automatically put on the next available flight. You think if the person buys a one-way and doesn't have money they'll be allowed to stay?

reply

I actually think is the govt. when people are deported, the govt pays for it for the transportation.

Updating after finding more information:
If you are travelling on a return ticket, most airlines are fair enough to let you use your return ticket for the unexpected return flight. Aside from that, most air lines regulate this in their terms of carriage and hold the passenger liable for any further costs.

The person that replied to me is right based on the first line of their post. I didn't finish reading it since I was told I was wrong.

If you are saying airline pays for it, you are very wrong. Airlines and travel agents do not have the capability of knowing a traveler's immigration history and do not have the right to check ones criminal past to issue a ticket. They cannot make a determination if one will be allowed to enter a country. It's not their place. It is the work of the federal govt. The government pays the airline to fly them back if they are deported all thru tax payers money of course (since its part of keeping the country safe). And it's not like the govt buys a ticket each time they deport a person. I'm sure immigration gets a bill at the end of the year from the airlines for all services rendered and it's paid thru the money set aside for this by the federal budget.

Wrong. The carrier pays for removal costs. It's a cost of doing business.

If they don't the government can seize the plane/train/bus/ship until they do.

Assuming you are a Canadian tax payer, it wouldn't outrage you that you are paying to remove people that were brought here by a corporation? They are making money by bringing them here, so they are responsible to send them back if they aren't admissible.
