One thing I picked up on is never a kiss in the movie. Not even a light peck.
Was there a reason for this, personal or otherwise? One would expect a little more display at the end of the wedding, when spouses reunite after his road trips before he had his fling, initial affection towards his fling partner, etc.

No, you didn't overlook it.
I think that was intentional, look at one of the photos on the imdb web page and you can see they have Jed looking like Jesus. Even though we know Jed partook of pleasure from his wife and fiddle player, they didn't want us to see imperfection.
That way you could think ... as you imagined what was going on.

Kissing is on ground for censorship. I think it goes without saying that in any religion, they want to be free from promiscuity and anything indecent.
